The Department Manager for Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Surgeons, a division of the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics, is responsible for the day-today management of the practice. He or She will coordinate managerial duties and responsibilities with the Practice Administrator. Such duties will encompass operational management, supervision of staff, and support to the Physicians. 

The Department Manager will assume increasing responsibility for revenue cycle management, financial oversight, and personnel management under the general direction and guidance from the Administrator. The Administrator will work with CAO and the Division's Physicians to develop and implement practice objectives, policies, procedures, and systems with the Department Manager operationalizing and overseeing those activities. Together with the Practice leadership and Administrator, the Department Manager will assure professional and thoughtful medical care for every patient.

Primary Responsibilities

The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Core Values and Operating Principles of CAO.

• In coordination with the Practice Administrator develops, implements, and oversees practice objectives, policies, procedures, and systems for all operational areas of the clinic.
•  In coordination with the Practice Administrator oversees HR and ensures effective administration/implementation of compensation, benefits, job descriptions, personnel policies, and payroll services.
•  In coordination with the Practice Administrator participates in the selection, training, supervision, performance evaluation, and disciplinary action of clinic staff. Including salary reviews.
• Resolves escalated administrative and operational problems including the maintenance of clinic property, computer systems, and installed software applications.
•  In coordination with the Practice Administrator compiles and reports data for Practice and Central office fiscal and statistical analysis. Including participation in the annual budget process.
•  In coordination with the Practice Administrator schedules and conducts periodic staff and training meetings.
• Maintains strict confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism in all matters due to the high level of information received at all times.
• Serves as an expert for front office administrative processes and procedures, assisting as a leader when needed.
•  In coordination with the Practice Administrator manages the collection of accounts receivable and accounts payable. Collaborating with the CBO for all revenue cycle management oversight and operations.
• Reviews and approves orders for medical supplies/equipment, medications, office supplies, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5years of experience in healthcare administration, practice operations, or medical office management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments or functions.

  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, compliance, and patient service standards.
