A vacancy exists in the Department of Aging for an Activity Coordinator.

Pay Schedule I, Grade 20, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week.

Examples of Duties

Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Senior Center Director, provides administrative, operational, programming, and technical assistance, enters data into WellSky and MySeniorCenter, and assists with program registration and membership renewals.

Essential Job Duties

  • Registers new members, renews current members' membership forms, and collects enhancement donations.
  • Enters data into MySeniorCenter and other software (such as SurveyMonkey).
  • Assists members with accessing MySeniorCenter and OPAL programs.
  • Assist the center director in developing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating senior center programs and activities.
  • Assist the center director with the daily operations of the senior center.
  • Assist the center director in the oversight of the nutrition program.
  • Attends senior center team meetings.
  • Assists in completing reports as needed, as assigned by the senior center director.
  • Makes bank deposits for all county revenues as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent;

Plus

Two years of successful experience as a playground leader, recreation leader, recreation specialist, teacher, or worker in a closely allied field.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of successful work experience at senior centers, with adult education, adult recreation, counseling, social work, community development, or a closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with, and can enforce, the Senior Center and Community Services Division Standard Operating Procedures and the Baltimore County policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with computers, including the Microsoft Office suite and Outlook.
  • Experience with MySeniorCenter, WellSky, and SurveyMonkey is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of the needs of older adults and the means to meet those needs.
  • Good knowledge of the objectives and purposes of activities, programs, and services for older adults.
  • Good customer service skills and ability to work effectively with older adults, volunteers, and the community in general.
  • Ability to keep charts and records of average complexity.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Licenses and Certificates

Some positions within this classification may require possession of a valid drivers license equivalent to a Non-Commercial, Class C Maryland drivers license at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE

Qualified applicants will be assigned a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as submitted on their application and supplemental questions. Conditions of Employment

Employees in this classification may be assigned to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

  • The work of this classification involves physical labor, including walking over rough, uneven surfaces during facility and grounds inspections, and lifting and carrying items.
  • The work entails travel to recreation and park sites, facilities, and meetings throughout the County.
  • A valid drivers license equivalent to a Non-Commercial Class C Maryland drivers license at the time of appointment.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance

General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.

Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
