We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Design Drafter III to support multi-phase engineering and drafting projects. In this role, you will take ownership of the drafting lifecycle, from initial technical research and scratch-built schematics to redline revisions and production documentation.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, proven experience interpreting as-built drawings, and the field-ready ability to inspect physical electrical control panels and produce complete, accurate schematics from scratch.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & CAD Drafting: Review physical electrical control panels and develop detailed wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and schematics from scratch using AutoCAD Electrical.
As-Built & Redline Execution: Read, evaluate, and update as-built drawings and implement engineering redlines across multiple active project deadlines.
Engineering Collaboration: Partner directly with engineers and architects to gather structural/system requirements, clarify rough sketches, and establish production workflows.
Technical Calculations: Calculate dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, and weight limitations to ensure design integrity and regulatory compliance.
Process Documentation: Outline step-by-step production methods (specifying required equipment and software) and draft operational and maintenance manuals.
Design Optimization: Identify potential operational or manufacturing bottlenecks during the drafting phase and propose functional redesigns.
Qualifications & Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications:
AutoCAD Electrical: Demonstrated professional expertise using AutoCAD Electrical for production-ready design packages.
Control Panel Drafting: Proven capability to assess an electrical control panel in person and generate complete drawings from scratch.
As-Built Proficiency: Deep familiarity with reading, interpreting, and revising complex as-built schematics.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma with at least 5+ years of dedicated drafting experience, OR
Graduate of an accredited drafting trade school / technical degree program.
Nice-to-Have / Preferred:
Certification from the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA).
Hands-on familiarity with 3D modeling tools (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks).
Prior experience in industrial automation, controls manufacturing, or MEP environments.
