Caroline Detention Facility is seeking a professional and detail-oriented Detention Facility Specialist to support daily operations within our secure detention facility. This non-certified position serves in both the Control Center and Reception areas, helping ensure facility security, effective communication, visitor management, and administrative support.Due to the sensitive nature of this role, employees must exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive information with discretion.ResponsibilitiesControl Center OperationsMonitor and operate facility telephone, intercom, radio, and security systems.Control and document movement of staff, detainees, visitors, and authorized personnel within the facility.Verify identification and authorization for individuals entering or leaving secure areas.Monitor emergency alarms and security systems and respond according to established procedures.Maintain accurate logs, records, and operational documentation.Issue, receive, and track facility keys, equipment, and other controlled items.Enter maintenance work orders and job requests into the facility database.Ensure assigned work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with facility standards.Process and distribute required shift documentation.Reception and Visitor ServicesServe as the primary point of contact for visitors, staff, and outside agencies during business hours.Answer, screen, and route incoming calls professionally and efficiently.Welcome visitors and assist with inquiries while adhering to facility policies and procedures.Coordinate with staff regarding visitor concerns and detainee-related inquiries.Maintain detainee visitation records and approved visitor lists.Train employees on facility phone systems and communication procedures.Assist with visitation operations, mail processing, and other administrative functions as needed.QualificationsRequiredHigh School Diploma or GED.Valid Virginia Driver's License.Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.Basic computer and recordkeeping proficiency.Professional appearance and demeanor.Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust Security Clearance.PreferredExperience in corrections, detention, law enforcement, security, or a related field.Knowledge of detention facility operations and regulations.Current First Aid and CPR certification.Bilingual English and Spanish skills.Physical RequirementsAbility to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and move throughout the facility.Ability to hear and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions.Ability to identify safety concerns, including smoke and other prohibited substances.Ability to remain calm and effective while working under pressure.BenefitsMedical InsuranceDental InsuranceVision InsuranceAFLAC CoverageVirginia Retirement System (VRS)Paid HolidaysVacation TimeSick Leave$20.34/hr payWhy Join Caroline Detention Facility?As a Detention Facility Specialist, you will play an important role in maintaining the security, efficiency, and professional operation of the facility.
