Description
The Department of Community Development is seeking a leader who will help guide the City's growth and development through city codes, standards, plan review, and functional plans to achieve the communitys vision as expressed in the Citys Comprehensive Plan; and is committed to serving all members of the community in a professional, consistent, and inclusive manner. The Development Engineering Manager, under the direction of the Community Development Director and guidance provided by the Public Works Director, manages an engineering division consisting of two development review engineers and two infrastructure inspectors.
This position blends technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to ensure high quality private development and plays a critical role in ensuring that the Citys built environment meets the current and future needs of our residents and business community. This position has broad responsibility over the division's function, including ensuring compliance with federal, State, and local law and developing and implementing policies, procedures, and objectives that are aligned with Department, City, Council, and community goals. Work is frequently performed under deadlines and requires attendance and public meetings and hearings, many of which are at night. The Engineering Manager frequently addresses highly sensitive issues, must work directly with elected officials and representatives from other jurisdictions and make presentations for boards, commissions, the City Council, and the community.

About The Department:
The Department of Community Development (DCD) is responsible for all matters affecting the physical development of the City. DCD assists residents and businesses on development, long-range planning, environmental sustainability of projects and programs that impact the City, and code enforcement. It also oversees the City's Recycling and Commute Trip Reduction programs.
Salary Range:
$11,647 - $15,610 Per Month
Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.

Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, seven years of engineering experience including five years of supervisory responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide sufficient evidence of the successful performance of the essential elements of the job such as those listed above.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move 10 to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work is performed mostly in an office environment with some time spent at construction sites. At construction sites, the employee may be exposed to physical hazards such as moving traffic and heavy construction equipment. Indoors, the noise level is usually low; outdoors, the noise level may be moderate to loud.
This position works a regular schedule, however, incumbents may be called in to work in emergency situations. Attendance and participation at evening meetings may be required.
The City of Tukwila offers a comprehensive benefit package to all regular full-time and part-time employees and their eligible dependents, including domestic partners (DP) and their dependents (a tax penalty applies to the DP portion of the premium). Part-time employees pay a pro-rated share of the premium. Medical Employees have the option of choosing from the Citys self-insured plan that is administered by Healthcare Management Administrators (HMA) and is part of the Regence Preferred Provider network; or Kaiser Permanente, an HMO, for medical and prescription coverage. Dental The dental plan is provided through the Citys self-insured plan (HMA) and covers preventative, basic, and restorative services to an annual maximum of $2,000. An incentive level applies to these services ranging from 70% to 100% coverage. Orthodontia is available for dependent children to age 19.
