DevOps Senior Engineer

Our Utility Client in NYC is looking for an Azure DevOps Engineer for a 12+month hybrid position (20-30 days onsite per year)

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated DevOps Engineer to join our technology team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting modern DevOps practices that enable secure, reliable, and scalable software delivery. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, Agile methodologies, cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, and application lifecycle management.
The DevOps Engineer will collaborate closely with Software Engineers, Solution Architects, Product Owners, QA Engineers, and Operations teams to improve deployment automation, system reliability, security, and development efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
DevOps & CI/CD

• Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
• Integrate GitHub repositories with Azure DevOps pipelines and release processes.
• Automate application build, testing, deployment, and monitoring activities.
• Implement branching strategies, pull request workflows, and release management practices.
• Support automated deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments.

Agile Delivery Support

• Work within Agile/Scrum teams to support sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release activities.
• Manage and maintain Azure DevOps Boards, including Epics, Features, User Stories, Tasks, and Bugs.
• Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and metrics to measure team performance and delivery progress.
• Support SAFe Agile practices and Program Increment (PI) planning activities.

Infrastructure & Automation

• Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, ARM Templates, or similar technologies.
• Automate environment provisioning, configuration management, and deployment activities.
• Support cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure and hybrid environments.
• Implement containerization and orchestration solutions using Docker and Kubernetes.

Monitoring & Reliability

• Monitor application and infrastructure health using enterprise monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot deployment, infrastructure, performance, and availability issues.
• Support high-availability and disaster recovery strategies.
• Participate in production support and on-call rotations as required.

Security & Compliance

• Implement DevSecOps practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Integrate security scanning, code analysis, and vulnerability management into CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards, policies, and governance requirements.
• Support audit and regulatory compliance initiatives.

Required Qualifications
Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or related roles.
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps services including:
  • Azure Boards
  • Azure Repos
  • Azure Pipelines
  • Azure Test Plans
  • Azure Artifacts
• Experience integrating Azure DevOps with GitHub repositories.
• Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines in enterprise environments.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
• Strong knowledge of Git source control and branching strategies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
• Experience supporting Azure cloud environments.
