Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced
DevSecOps Engineer to support the development, deployment, automation, security, and continuous delivery of applications within a mission-critical
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) federal healthcare program.
The DevSecOps Engineer will work closely with software developers, QA engineers, architects, cloud engineers, security teams, and program stakeholders to implement automated CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native deployments, infrastructure automation, security controls, monitoring, and operational improvements. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting enterprise applications in cloud environments and integrating security throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines supporting application development, testing, security validation, and deployment.
- Automate build, deployment, configuration, testing, and operational processes across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Support deployment and management of containerized applications using Docker.
- Implement and maintain DevSecOps practices that integrate security throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with development teams to integrate code quality, security scanning, vulnerability management, and automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Support cloud-native application deployments and infrastructure within AWS environments.
- Work with development and architecture teams supporting microservices-based applications and REST APIs.
- Implement automated deployment strategies and promote repeatable, reliable, and consistent environment configuration.
- Monitor application and infrastructure health, performance, availability, and deployment activity.
- Troubleshoot build, deployment, infrastructure, integration, and environment-related issues.
- Support release management, deployment coordination, rollback procedures, and production-readiness activities.
- Implement logging, monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards to improve system observability.
- Collaborate with security and compliance teams to implement required security controls and address vulnerabilities.
- Support automated security and quality checks using tools such as SonarQube and other appropriate DevSecOps tools.
- Maintain technical documentation covering deployment processes, CI/CD pipelines, environment configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, developers, QA engineers, architects, and other technical stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, deployment efficiency, system reliability, security, and overall engineering productivity.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, cloud engineering, release engineering, or software engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong experience with Docker and containerized application deployments.
- Experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native application environments.
- Experience supporting microservices architectures and REST-based applications.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, build management, deployment automation, and release management.
- Experience integrating automated testing, code quality, and security checks into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience troubleshooting application deployments, build failures, infrastructure issues, and environment-related problems.
- Strong understanding of version control systems and collaborative software development practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting federal government or healthcare technology programs.
- Experience working with CMS, Medicare, Medicaid, or Program Integrity environments.
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices within highly regulated or security-sensitive environments.
- Experience with Java/Spring Boot enterprise applications.
- Experience with Maven and Java application build processes.
- Experience with SonarQube and automated code quality analysis.
- Experience with automated security, vulnerability, and dependency scanning tools.
- Experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift container orchestration platforms.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools.
- Experience with AWS S3, IAM/STS, and other AWS services.
- Experience with centralized logging, monitoring, and application observability.
- Experience supporting high-volume enterprise applications and distributed systems.
- DevSecOps, AWS, Kubernetes, or related professional certifications are a plus.
Work Environment
This position will work as part of a multidisciplinary technology team supporting the development, modernization, deployment, and operation of enterprise applications within the
CMS federal healthcare environment. The role will collaborate closely with development, QA, architecture, security, cloud, and program teams to support secure and reliable software delivery.
The environment includes
cloud-native AWS architecture, Docker-based containerization, microservices, REST APIs, automated quality controls, and DevSecOps practices.
Compensation:
The expected compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $160,000 annually. Compensation is determined in good faith and may vary based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, clearance level, labor category alignment, contract requirements, work location, internal equity, and business needs.
