Imaging decisions change treatment the same day. This role exists to deliver accurate, timely interpretations that let referring clinicians act with confidence—across emergency, inpatient, and outpatient studies. Success is measured in diagnostic clarity, turnaround that matches clinical urgency, and reports colleagues can trust without a second call.
Performance Objectives
Interpret a high-volume mix of CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film studies with accuracy that meets or exceeds departmental peer-review standards.
Issue preliminary reads for emergent and STAT cases within agreed turnaround windows so treatment is not delayed.
Produce concise, actionable reports that state findings, impression, and recommended next steps when clinically indicated.
Consult directly with referring physicians on complex or discrepant cases and document those discussions in the record.
Participate in peer review, discrepancy conferences, and protocol refinement so error rates fall and imaging pathways improve.
Maintain licensure, board certification, and continuing certification requirements without lapse in clinical privileges.
Environment & Resources
You will practice within a multidisciplinary imaging service, reading from an integrated PACS and reporting in the enterprise EHR. Work is supported by technologists, a reading-room coordinator, and subspecialty colleagues available for second opinion. Schedule, call coverage, and modality mix are defined before start. You report to the imaging medical director and have protected time for peer review and required CME.
Essential Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. and completion of an ACGME-accredited diagnostic radiology residency.
Current ABR certification or board eligibility with a clear path to certification.
Active state medical license, or eligibility to obtain one before the start date, and DEA registration as required for the practice setting.
Demonstrated competence across core modalities used in the assigned service line, with recent independent reading experience.
Comfort with PACS, voice recognition, and structured reporting in a production reading environment.
Clear written and verbal communication with clinicians under time pressure.
Role Selling Points
Clinical impact is immediate: your read is often the decision that starts or stops treatment.
Volume and case mix are scoped in advance so expectations are explicit, not implied.
Peer support and second-read access reduce isolation on difficult cases.
Quality work—peer review and protocol improvement—is part of the job, not unpaid extra.
If you want your interpretations to move care forward, apply with your CV and a short note on the modalities you read independently today.
