QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks;
  • Valid driver’s license, with acceptable driving record;  Commercial Driver’s License, preferred;
  • ASE certifications in heavy truck areas (T1-T8); preferred
  • Welding and fabrication experience; preferred
  • Previous experience with waste management or construction vehicle fleets, preferred;
  • Formal diesel mechanics training or certification, preferred

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on heavy trucks according to manufacturer specifications and company maintenance schedules;
  • Diagnose mechanical problems using visual inspection, testing equipment, and diagnostic tools;
  • Repair and rebuild diesel engines, including component replacement and system troubleshooting;
  • Service and repair brake systems including air brakes, hydraulic brakes, and related components;
  • Replace worn or damaged truck components such as transmissions, differentials, hydraulic systems, and electrical components;
  • Perform light repair work including lighting systems, mirrors, and minor bodywork;
  • Conduct Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections to ensure vehicles meet federal safety standards;
  • Document inspection results and identify required repairs or adjustments;
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work meets DOT compliance requirements;
  • Maintain current knowledge of DOT regulations affecting commercial vehicles;
  • Order necessary parts and supplies for maintenance and repair work;
  • Pick up parts from local suppliers as needed;
  • Maintain basic parts inventory and communicate supply needs to supervisor;
  • Research part numbers and specifications for heavy truck applications;
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including labor hours and parts used;
  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment;
  • May assist with vehicle inspections and troubleshooting in the field; and
  • Participate in training programs to maintain current technical knowledge.
