Job Description

Digital Media and A/V Production Specialist

Join a Growing Media Team at Everett Public Schools!

Our Educational Television Studio is expanding! We are building a modern, dual-engine media team to elevate how we capture, broadcast, and share the incredible stories happening across our school district and community. Located inside the Everett High School TV Studio, we are hiring two distinct, parallel roles at the same time: a Digital Media & A/V Production Specialist and a Social Media & A/V Production Specialist.

Together, these two positions will form the operational backbone of our Studio. While both roles share a strong, hands-on technical foundation in broadcast production, studio equipment maintenance, and district-wide Audio/Video school support, they split creatively to conquer different media landscapes. The Digital Media Specialist anchors our long-form broadcast editing, technical control room engineering, and equipment oversight. The Social Media Specialist acts as our agile storyteller, on-camera community voice, and short-form vertical video expert.

If you are a technically skilled media creator who loves to problem-solve and wants to shape the next chapter of Everett Public Schools' Educational Programming, we want you on our team!

Position Summary:

The Digital Media & A/V Production Specialist is a technical and creative role responsible for high-quality, long-form video production, professional broadcasting & videography, studio engineering, and digital media distribution. This position acts as the backbone of the station''s broadcast and archiving capabilities, transitioning seamlessly from operating a multi-camera live control room to editing & managing the station''s digital video assets. The ideal candidate pairs an advanced background in broadcast engineering with an expert eye for non-linear long-form editing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Long-Form Media Production & Photography (80%)

  • Field & Studio Production: Plan, script, shoot, and direct long-form educational programming, local lectures, sporting events, and community public access content.

  • Post-Production Master Operations: Edit raw video footage and photos into polished, professional broadcast-ready assets. This includes advanced non-linear video editing, color correction, audio mixing, graphic overlays, and photo retouching. Own the "master cut" workflow for all major events.

  • Live Broadcast Control Room Operations: Set up, engineer, and operate multi-camera remote productions, portable switchers, and live-streaming equipment for EPS Events, including school committee meetings, graduations, and sports.

  • Photography Services: Serve as a photographer for key school and community events, when needed, providing high-quality still imagery.

  • Asset Collaboration: Package and deliver clean, organized raw footage, audio tracks, and high-res photos to the Social Media Specialist for micro-content creation.

Broadcast Operations & District A/V Support (20%)

  • Day-to-Day Troubleshooting: Act as a primary point of contact for district staff experiencing immediate A/V issues (e.g., malfunctioning audio systems, projectors, microphones, miscellaneous displays, etc.), taking the lead on complex hardware or signal path diagnostics.

  • Equipment Maintenance & Inventory: Maintain, organize, and inventory the studio's field gear, cinema and photography cameras, studio lighting & audio equipment, and editing workstations to ensure readiness.

  • General Event Support: Set up and engineer advanced audio/video systems, microphones, speakers, screens, and projectors for school assemblies, theatrical performances, and district presentations in Everett''s Public Schools.

  • Playback & Channel Management: Program, monitor, and schedule finalized long-form content for the station's automated CableCast television playback server.

  • Server Management & Content Archiving: Manage and oversee the Studio's SNS EVO media servers. Also manage the Studio's LTO archival tape backups, ensuring both organization and redundancy.

Core Competencies & Physical Demands:

  • Collaboration & Patience: Ability to work side-by-side with a Social Media counterpart and assist district faculty & students with a helpful attitude.

  • Independent Problem Solving: Strong critical thinking skills to diagnose and resolve unexpected hardware, software, or signal flow glitches on the fly.

  • Availability: Flexibility to work evenings or weekends to cover school committee meetings, sports games, or community events (evening events often begin at 6pm or later; weekend events are rare but necessary).

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of production equipment, climb stadium bleachers and ladders safely, and remain standing for extended periods (e.g. while operating a camera).

  • Background Check: Must pass background checks, which include Massachusetts fingerprint check, CORI, SORI, and DCF background checks to work within a school building.

Qualifications and Technical Requirements:

Required Technical Skills

  • Camera Operation (Video & Photo): Advanced familiarity with Sony Full-Frame Cinema Cameras (FX9, FX6, FX3) and Sony's professional photography line (1 II, 9 III), including manual exposure, lens selection, and audio capture.

  • Editing & Post-Production Software: Advanced proficiency in Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio (video) and Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop (photo). Familiarity with Canva is also encouraged.

  • Broadcast Automation: Hands-on experience with CableCast hardware/software systems (or equivalent community media playback servers).

  • Audio Engineering: Deep understanding of field audio (lavaliers, shotguns), wireless frequency management, studio soundboards, and live sound mixing.

Desired Technical Skills (Highly Preferred)

  • Expansive knowledge or hands-on experience operating a control room, preferably utilizing Ross Video Carbonite Ultrix FR5 production switchers/routers.

  • Familiarity with Ross Video's Xpression real-time graphics systems as well as with Ross Video's Mira+ Replay server environment.

  • Hands-on experience with SNS EVO hardware/software systems (or equivalent) as well as experience with Linear Tape-Open Systems managed by Archiware software (or equivalent).

Education & Experience

  • Education: Associate's degree or higher in Communications, Television/Film Production, Media Studies, or a related field (equivalent professional experience considered).

  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in multimedia production, studio engineering, and long-form video editing. Experience in an educational or public access environment is highly desirable.

Position Type: This is an exempt, non-union position: Full-Time, twelve-month work year.

Location: Located within Everett High School - 100 Elm St, Everett, MA 02149

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience and education.
