Job Summary

The Center for Engaged Liberal Arts (CELA) seeks a part-time student assistant to support the Digital Portfolio Office and Oberlin's use of the Digication ePortfolio platform. This position combines technical support, student engagement, assessment, and administrative project work. Student assistants help faculty, staff, and students use digital portfolios to document academic, co-curricular, and experiential learning while also contributing to campus-wide assessment and outreach initiatives.

Students with an interest in educational technology, digital design, communication, assessment, data analysis, project management, or reflective learning are encouraged to apply. Training will be provided for all aspects of the position.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Creating and maintaining a personal digital portfolio as a model for other students (support provided as needed).
• Providing technical and instructional support for the Digication platform to students, faculty, and staff through office hours, one-on-one consultations, workshops, email, and other support channels.
• Assisting with the administration and maintenance of the Digication platform, including backend support, troubleshooting, user management, and helping resolve technical issues.
• Supporting digital portfolio assignments across campus by sending reminders, monitoring required submissions, following up on incomplete work, and assisting with routine administrative tasks.
• Assisting with assessment of student learning through digital portfolio analysis, including reviewing portfolios using established rubrics, organizing assessment data, preparing summary reports, and supporting institutional assessment projects. This work may include the responsible use of AI-assisted analysis tools under staff supervision.
• Assisting with narrative and qualitative analysis of student reflections to identify themes, evidence of integrative learning, and program outcomes.
• Supporting outreach initiatives that encourage students without required portfolio assignments to document experiential and integrative learning through voluntary portfolio activities, workshops, and campus events.
• Creating instructional materials, reference guides, tutorials, promotional materials, and other resources that support effective use of digital portfolios.
• Facilitating workshops and training sessions on the Digication platform and effective digital portfolio practices.
• Serving as a Digital Portfolio Ambassador by promoting reflective learning and digital portfolios across the Oberlin community.
• Assisting with special projects and other administrative duties as assigned.
• Working responsibly with student records and digital portfolios that may contain FERPA-protected or otherwise sensitive information, maintaining confidentiality and following institutional policies regarding data privacy and ethical use of student work.

Qualifications

• Interest in educational technology, digital portfolios, digital storytelling, instructional design, assessment, or student success.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with faculty, staff, and fellow students.
• Attention to detail and willingness to learn new technologies.
• Experience with Digication, website design, multimedia creation, AI tools, or data analysis is helpful but not required.
• Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to work responsibly with confidential and FERPA-protected student information.
