Job description:


The Direct Support Professional(DSP)/Certified Medication Technician (CMT) administers prescribed medications and treatments as listed on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) to participants/clients and maintains related medical records under supervision of a Registered Nurse. The DSP/CMT verifies the identity of participant receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records. Presents medication to participant and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures. Takes vital signs or observes participant to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions. Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered. The DSP/CMT also provides personal care to residents as needed/assigned and ensures delivery of care and services to residents in the community to include Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), room cleanliness, scheduled activities and dining services and individual service plan need of each assigned resident.


Qualification Requirements: The DSP/CMT will be at least 18 years of age and have successful completion of the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) required training. Possess current and valid certification as a Medication Technician or Aide in the State of Maryland.


Other Qualifying Requirements:

• Have current Certified Medication Technician certification with MBON.
• Health clearance/physical, current within 12 months.
• Pass a criminal background investigation.
• Complete necessary pre/in-service training based on the Person-Centered Plan.
• Complete the new DDA required training by July 1, 2019 or sooner. After July 1, 2019 all new hires must complete the new DDA training prior to service delivery.
• Communicates well in spoken and written English.
• 1-9 Documentation (Authorized to work in the United States)
• Social Security (Social Security Card as ID).
• TB or Chest X-ray within 12 months
• Hepatitis B series/declination
• Work well independently and as needed a reliable team player with a positive attitude and a strong desire to provide the best quality care
• At least Two (2) letters of Reference (must be in good standing).
• Verification of past employment History

Certified Medication Technicians will have a basic knowledge of:

• Medications and their use.
• Drug actions and possible negative reactions.
• Methods of administration.
• Trained observation skills.
• References and resource materials that may be available to the CMT; and
• Procedures used to obtain assistance of the individual’s registered nurse, the physician or primary care practitioner who prescribes the medication.

The DSP/CMT will have knowledge and perform all practices that protect the individual rights of each resident.
