This rewarding role blends daily physical exercise, community outings, and skill-building. The goal is to help him stay active, explore community activities, and prepare for future paid employment.Key ResponsibilitiesActive Community Outings: Accompany him on trips to the library, local gym, museums, and occasional local field trips.Recreation & Sports: Participate in walking, biking, kayaking, and quarterly New England Healing Sports Association (NESHA) or other sporting activities.Daily Routines: Support daily exercise routines, assist during a weekly volunteer cleaning job, and packed lunches.Behavioral Support: Implement his established safety plan. Identify anxiety triggers (heat, hunger, thirst, noise) and utilize tools like noise-canceling headphones.Medication Administration: Safely administer scheduled medications (Medication and Safety Care Training required.) Certification provided by MDS.Direct Support Professional minimum qualifications include:a sound ethical foundation, dedication, creativity, commitment to building a relationship, sense of humor and ability to work in a team environment.Schedule is flexible, including weekday and/or weekend hours.Pre-employment Background Check Requirements: Criminal records, motor vehicle record, Bureau of Adult and Aging Services (BAAS), Division of Child, Youth and Families (DCYF), Office of Inspector General (OIG)
