Overview:

Gray AES is looking to add an Director of Architecture to the Fullerton, CA office. *Must have Industrial Architecture experience

Who we want…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a minimum of ten (10) years or experience; or a degree from four-year college or university or a degree from a technical college and a minimum of fifteen (15) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional licensure (RA) and/or additional certifications (LEED, PMP) are desirable.
  • Proven success delivering complex, multi-typology projects across various delivery methods, with a track record of execution excellence.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing studio operations, resource planning and team member development.
  • Proficiency in architectural design software (AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam) and business software. Familiarity with ACC/BIM 360 and Bluebeam Session standards is highly desirable. May require knowledge of applications specific to the project assigned.
  • Strong organization, communication, interpersonal, and team coordination skills.
  • Energetic, collaborative mindset with a passion for creative problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:

What we expect… 

  • Confer, work with and support other Directors, Business Unit Leaders and Project Executives to ensure coordination and alignment of goals. Build and maintain strong relationships through active engagement and effective communication.
  • Support and contribute to development and implementation of approved strategic plans that are in-line with the Gray Inc Strategic Priorities.
  • Propose improvement initiatives for the company, Process and Standards, Studio, and ways of working.
  • Lead studio financial stewardship, including resource planning, utilization, fee guardrails and project health. Align studio priorities with Gray AES’s focus on stability and execution excellence.
  • Lead a Studio in the Architecture Business Unit. Oversee and manage Studio operations. Foster a collaborative and supportive Studio environment, with a culture of curiosity, accountability and professional growth. Actively mentor and develop team members.
  • In collaboration with Vice President, Architecture assign projects and allocate internal and external resources effectively based on team member strengths, project needs, and resource availability. Responsible for team member utilization
  • Conduct team member performance reviews, providing actionable feedback, as necessary.
  • Pre-Proposal and Proposal Phase
  • Support and participate in business development efforts, including developing and maintaining customer relationships, participating in customer presentations, and contributing to trade shows and conferences.
  • Collaborate with Proposal Team to develop proposal strategy and development of design proposals, ensuring compliance with RFP requirements, identification of potential risks, and development of project execution plan.
  • Collaborate with Vice President, Architecture and President, Architecture for identifying and engaging key design consultants for Proposal Efforts.
  • Review Architectural scope, schedule, risks and fee with relevant internal stakeholders. Ensure risk mitigation strategies are accounted for in Execution Plan.
  • Assist with the review and negotiation of Customer Contracts and Consultant Agreements, and Master Service Agreement amendments, while maintaining interaction and strong relationships to ensure commitments are clearly defined and consistently delivered.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Support Project Team during project execution, monitor design quality, project documentation, project financials, changes, design schedule, risks and other project KPIs to ensure execution excellence.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with Gray AES standards and processes.
  • Participate in Quality Control by reviewing design documents at Milestone Reviews, or more frequently if necessary to ensure execution excellence.
  • Provide guidance to Project Teams in addressing technical issues and resolving interpersonal challenges to maintain effective collaboration and project progress.
  • Regularly report and update Vice President, Architecture and President, Architecture on Project Status.
  • Other Duties as assigned

The wage range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; as well as other business and organizational needs.  The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.  A reasonable estimate of the current range is $150,000 to $175,000.
