Description and Requirements

The Opportunity

The Director, Internal Communications - Global Technology & Operations (GTO) will help develop and execute internal communications strategies that inform, engage, and connect employees across MetLife's GTO organization. Reporting to the VP-Internal Communications, this role will partner closely with GTO leaders and communications colleagues to translate technology and data priorities into clear, timely, and relevant messaging across internal channels, while supporting day-to-day communications planning and execution for key GTO initiatives. The successful candidate will be a strong writer, people leader and strategic communicator with experience supporting leadership communications, simplifying complex topics, managing editorial planning, and delivering communications programs that drive understanding and engagement. This role is ideal for a collaborative, hands-on communications leader who can balance strategy and execution, develop talent, work effectively across functions, bring an enterprise mindset to functional communications, and help ensure employees are informed and aligned during key business, technology and organizational moments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute internal communications plans that support GTO priorities, initiatives, transformation efforts and leadership objectives.
  • Draft and deliver clear, compelling content across internal channels, including leadership messages, employee updates, intranet stories, talking points, town hall materials and presentation content.
  • Partner with GTO leaders, subject matter experts and communications colleagues to simplify complex technology, operations, data, security and service topics, support executive and leadership communications, and guide one direct report in delivering high-quality work with clarity and consistency.
  • Manage editorial planning and channel coordination to ensure communications are timely, aligned and effective during business milestones, technology initiatives and periods of change.
  • Use employee feedback, performance data, channel analytics and evolving best practices to strengthen internal communications and improve engagement over time.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or employee engagement, preferably with experience supporting complex functions, transformation initiatives or enterprise priorities.
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills, with experience creating content across channels and translating complex business, technology or operational topics into clear employee communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic communications counsel, partner effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional colleagues, and manage and develop communications talent with clarity, consistency and sound judgment.
  • Strong editorial planning, project management, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, English or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating and operationalizing technology, digital tools, AI-enabled capabilities or analytics in communications production, planning, measurement and/or processes.
  • Time spent in financial services, insurance or a similarly regulated sector.
  • Experience supporting technology, operations, data, cybersecurity, customer service or other highly technical functions.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $112,000 - $149,300. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
