Job Description

Director of Nursing

Lead With Purpose and Make a Difference Every Day

What if your leadership could shape the health, safety, and quality of life of hundreds of people every day?

At Misericordia, the Director of Nursing does much more than manage a department. You lead and develop a team of nurses, build strong relationships with residents, families, and guardians, and help ensure the people we serve receive high-quality, respectful, and individualized care.

As a Director of Nursing, you will work closely with the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Nursing, the Vice President of Clinical Services, and teams across Misericordia. You will support our nurses so they are on-boarded, thoroughly trained, engaged, and developed to their full potential. You will also help uphold the values of our Community of Believers: quality of life, responsibility, connection, and spirituality.

Experienced nursing leaders are welcome. A valid Illinois RN license and previous experience working with people with developmental disabilities are required.

Why Join Misericordia?

  • Meaningful work: Lead a nursing team that helps residents with developmental and intellectual disabilities live healthy, active, and fulfilling lives.
  • Leadership impact: Support, mentor, and develop nurses, and help shape nursing policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Supportive team: Work alongside the AVP of Nursing, the VP of Clinical Services, and colleagues in residential, therapy, dietary, vocational, and social service departments.
  • Career growth: Take advantage of professional training and opportunities to grow throughout the organization.
  • Competitive pay: Earn competitive pay, plus benefits.
  • Education support: Take advantage of tuition reimbursement and other professional development opportunities.

As a Director of Nursing, You Will:

  • Support the health, safety, and welfare of all residents in an atmosphere that promotes quality, respect, and dignity
  • Support staff retention by engaging, mentoring, and developing the nurses you lead, and maintain high employee morale
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and ongoing in-service education
  • Ensure employee HR file requirements are up to date, including physicals, PPD, CPR, annual training, and evaluations, and make sure each nurse receives an evaluation on time
  • Work with pharmacy personnel to make sure medications are available as ordered
  • Participate in planning and budgeting for nursing services, including purchasing equipment and supplies
  • Share responsibility for chairing the Infection Control Committee and Pharmacy Committee meetings, take part in Risk Management meetings, and serve on other committees as assigned
  • Help develop and carry out nursing policies and procedures, and keep working knowledge of licensing and certification standards, rules, and regulations
  • Attend Misericordia Family Association meetings and other Misericordia functions as assigned
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident records and medical information, and serve as a mandated reporter
  • Perform other duties as assigned
