Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• A minimum of six (6) years of professional accounting experience, plus two (2) years of supervisory/management experience.
• Proficiency with personal computers, spreadsheet software applications, and enterprise wide automated financial systems.
• Experience with and an aptitude for advanced technical systems and reporting.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Desired Qualifications

• Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field.
• Professional certification (e.g. C.M.A., C.P.A.).
• Database management experience.
• Banner experience.
• Higher education experience, Tax research and preparation experience.
• Strong technical ability and experience.

Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.

Position Details Position Purpose

Oversee and manage the Central Accounting functions of the University including financial system management, preparation of audited financial statements, and tax compliance.

More specifically, the Director of Accounting Services is very broad and complex. Key areas of responsibility include financial reporting, overseeing the financial statement preparation and coordination with the external audit firm. This is a highly visible position that requires a vast amount of technical knowledge and experience. This position requires a Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification. Requires in depth knowledge of GASB pronouncements and implementation procedures. This position manages the banner finance module and security access to it, including being a finance data steward. System integrity is key to all internal control systems and this position ensures compliance is maintained. This position trains the entire campus on financial reporting and compliance. The federal single audit is managed by this position which is a complex compliance audit. The NCAA agreed upon procedures is managed by this position. Annual negotiation of the Federal fringe benefit rates are managed by this role. This position manages banking relationships and oversees transaction processes including positive pay, cash management, ACH, wires, etc. This position is a key member of the Financial Performance Review committee to provide oversight and guidance to business units on campus. This position is a senior financial expert and advisor to leadership and the campus community.
