Director of DevOps

Careerscape is recruiting on behalf of our client, a high-growth, venture-backed technology company in New York City, for a Director of DevOps to lead the team responsible for the reliability, scalability, and security of its cloud infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to shape infrastructure strategy at a company moving fast, with real ownership over tooling, architecture, and the roadmap for platform engineering as the business scales.

Day to day, you will split time between hands-on technical leadership and strategic planning, guiding a growing team of DevOps and SRE engineers while partnering closely with engineering leadership on architecture decisions that impact the entire product. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, has built infrastructure teams from the ground up or scaled them through hypergrowth, and is energized by the pace and stakes of a well-funded startup where decisions move quickly and impact is immediate.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of DevOps and site reliability engineers
• Own the strategy and roadmap for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and platform tooling
• Drive architecture decisions for scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency
• Establish and maintain SLAs, SLOs, and incident response processes
• Partner with engineering leadership on infrastructure needs tied to product growth
• Implement and refine infrastructure as code practices across the organization
• Oversee cloud security posture in partnership with security and compliance teams
• Manage vendor relationships and infrastructure budget
• Mentor engineers and build a strong on-call and operational culture
• Evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies to improve system performance

Requirements

• 8 or more years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering roles
• 3 or more years in a people leadership or management capacity
• Deep expertise with AWS or a comparable major cloud provider
• Strong background in Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration
• Proven experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform
• Track record building and scaling CI/CD pipelines
• Experience operating infrastructure at a fast-growing startup or scale-up
• Strong understanding of security best practices in cloud environments
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally with leadership
