Position Summary

The Director of Human Resources serves as the strategic leader of Lubricar's Human Resources Department and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all human resources functions across the organization. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this position partners closely with the COO, President, Regional Managers, District Managers, and Store Managers to attract, develop, engage, and retain exceptional employees while ensuring compliance with all applicable employment laws.

The Director of Human Resources leads the company's recruiting, employee relations, compensation and benefits, payroll administration, compliance, training, leadership development, succession planning, performance management, and policy administration. This position directly supervises the Human Resources team while serving as a trusted advisor to leadership and a champion of Lubricar's Vision, Mission, and Values.

The Director works both in the corporate office and in the field, providing hands-on support to managers and employees throughout New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises Human Resources staff, providing coaching, development, accountability, and performance evaluations.
  • Establishes department goals and priorities that support company objectives.
  • Builds a highly responsive, service-oriented Human Resources team.
  • Develops departmental budgets and manages Human Resources resources effectively.
  • Ensures continuity of all HR functions through cross-training and succession planning.
  • Serves as a strategic business partner to executive leadership.

Strategic Leadership

  • Develops and executes the company's Human Resources strategy in support of business objectives.
  • Partners with executive leadership to improve organizational effectiveness and employee engagement.
  • Champions Lubricar's Vision, Mission, and Values throughout the organization.
  • Leads organizational change initiatives and supports continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develops HR metrics and dashboards measuring turnover, retention, recruiting effectiveness, and engagement.

Talent Acquisition

  • Develops recruiting strategies that attract and retain high-quality employees.
  • Oversees recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and orientation processes.
  • Partners with Operations to maintain appropriate staffing levels throughout the company.
  • Builds relationships with recruiting sources, educational institutions, and community organizations.

Employee Relations

  • Serves as the company's primary resource for employee relations matters. 
  • Conducts investigations involving employee complaints, harassment, discrimination, misconduct, ethics concerns, and policy violations.
  • Ensures investigations are timely, thorough, well documented, and confidential.
  • Recommends appropriate corrective actions and disciplinary measures.
  • Coaches leaders through difficult employee situations while balancing operational needs with legal compliance.

Leadership Development

  • Designs and implements leadership development programs for managers and assistant managers.
  • Partners with Operations to identify high-potential employees and develop succession plans.
  • Oversees the company's performance management process.
  • Provides coaching to managers on performance evaluations, accountability, documentation, and employee development.

Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll

  • Oversees administration of employee compensation and benefits programs.
  • Oversees payroll administration to ensure accurate, timely, and confidential payroll processing.
  • Evaluates compensation and benefit programs to remain competitive.
  • Oversees health insurance, COBRA, HIPAA, retirement plans, disability benefits, EAPs, and related programs.

Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.
  • Maintains current knowledge of employment regulations and industry best practices.
  • Oversees FMLA, ADA accommodations, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and leave administration.
  • Develops, updates, and administers company policies and employee handbook revisions.

Operations Support

  • Serves as a resource for Regional Managers, District Managers, and Store Managers on employment-related matters.
  • Assists leadership with workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Supports store visits, investigations, coaching, and leadership meetings.
  • Partners with Operations and Risk Management to promote workplace safety and reduce employment-related risk.

Human Resources Technology

  • Oversees HRIS, payroll systems, electronic personnel files, and employee records.
  • Leverages HR technology, analytics, and AI tools to improve recruiting, onboarding, training, compliance, and employee communications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field referred.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or PHR certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive HR leadership experience.
  • Minimum three years supervising HR professionals.
  • Experience support multi-location organizations with 300+ employees strongly preferred.
  • Experience in retail, automotive, hospitality, restaurant, healthcare, or other multi-unit service industries preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HRIS platforms, payroll systems, ATS platforms, and electronic personnel records.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel to company locations throughout New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.
  • Ability to work in automotive service environments including noise, odors, and varying weather conditions during site visits.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
