Director of Human Resources

SALARY RANGE: $120,000-$140,000, discretionary bonus eligible.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading and managing the Human Resources function for the hotel, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, payroll oversight, leave administration, workers' compensation, training, performance management, employee engagement, health and safety programs, and policy and employment law compliance. Serves as a strategic business partner and to the General Manager and hotel leadership team to support a service-oriented culture, operational excellence, employee retention, and consistent administration of company policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Executive committee member representing HR strategy and compliance.

WHAT YOULL DO:

Administrative and Compliance

• Maintain accurate employee records in HR systems, including new hires, terminations, job changes, benefits, training, leave, workers' compensation, and other employment information.
• Administer Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, handbook requirements, labor law postings, personnel files, and employment records in compliance with company standards and applicable laws.
• Administer benefit programs, employee communications, health and wellness programs, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Administer leave programs, reasonable accommodations, workers' compensation claims, and return-to-work processes in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
• Support hotel safety programs, accident reporting, workplace safety communications, safety inspections, and OSHA/Cal/OSHA compliance coordination where applicable.
• Ensure disciplinary procedures, coaching documentation, performance documentation, workplace investigations, and termination recommendations are completed according to hotel guidelines and legal requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee records, investigations, medical information, payroll information, personnel matters, and other sensitive information.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with brand standards, performance accountability, and audits oversight to drive operational excellence and consistency.
• Managing employee leaves of absence, facilitating the interactive accommodation process, and coordinating return-to-work programs in compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Oversee all aspects of workers compensation claim management, including incident reporting, investigation, leave coordination, ensure compliance and return-to-work planning.

Payroll

• Oversee hotel payroll administration and timekeeping processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with wage and hour laws.
• Partner with payroll and department managers to resolve payroll discrepancies, monitor labor costs, review timekeeping practices, and ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Support compliance with pay practices, meal and rest period practices where applicable, overtime, tips, deductions, garnishments, and other payroll-related requirements.

Recruitment

• Lead recruiting efforts, including job postings, sourcing, job fairs, interviews, screening, selection, onboarding, and candidate communications.
• Coordinate pre-employment requirements, including background checks, drug testing where applicable, employment eligibility verification, references, and other screening requirements.
• Partner with department managers to select qualified candidates who meet job requirements and demonstrate service-oriented behaviors consistent with hotel standards.
• Review staffing levels, turnover, time-to-fill, retention trends, and workforce needs to ensure guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives are met.

Training

• Develop, coordinate, and track employee training programs and initiatives.
• Ensure completion and compliance of required training, including orientation, new hire training, harassment prevention, workplace violence prevention where applicable, safety, OSHA/Cal/OSHA where applicable, alcohol service/RBS where applicable, and other regulatory or hotel standards.
• Support leadership development, performance management, service standards, technical skills training, and succession planning efforts.
• Maintain training records and provide training completion reports to management as needed.

Employee Relations and Management

• Serve as a primary resource for employee relations matters, associate complaints, workplace conflicts, policy questions, and management coaching.
• Conduct and/or support workplace investigations involving policy violations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, workplace violence, misconduct, safety concerns, or other employee relations matters.
• Recommend appropriate corrective action, performance management, coaching, documentation, or termination steps in accordance with hotel policy and applicable law.
• Promote employee engagement through recognition programs, associate events, employee surveys, communication initiatives, and culture-building activities.
• Conduct exit interviews, monitor turnover trends, and recommend retention strategies.
• Promote open communication between departments and ensure associates are treated fairly, consistently, and equitably.
• Attend department and inter-departmental meetings to gather feedback and communicate HR-related topics.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with hotel policy and applicable laws.
• Follow supervisor's instructions and complete all other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE NEED:

• Minimum 5 years of Director of Human Resources experience, preferably in a full-service, luxury, lifestyle, resort, or high-volume hotel environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Human Resources certification, such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP, preferred.
• Experience with employee relations, investigations, leave administration, workers' compensation, payroll coordination, compliance training, HRIS systems, and hospitality operations preferred.
