We are seeking a Director of Recruitment who will report to the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions. As a member of this senior leadership team, the Director will provide strategic planning around a core business area in support of office priorities and goals. They will bethe direct manager for 5-7 admissions staff members, including members of the management team, providing supervision, mentorship, and professional development.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Management of admissions staff members (includes both Full and PT staff).
Provides leadership in pursuing the university's ambitious strategic enrollment goals.
Leverages data to develop innovative recruitment strategies across various complex institutional priorities.
Leads a team of admissions officers responsible for recruitment across 30+ domestic and international regions.
Coordinates with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure alignment of marketing and recruitment strategies.
Oversees all aspects of prospective student recruitment, including on-campus, off-campus, and virtual engagement.
Collaborates with the Senior Director of Admissions, Systems, and Operations to develop tools to track recruitment effectiveness.
Works with various teams in the office to identify and foster partnerships with national and global college access organizations.
Manages a recruitment budget and ensures effective allocation of resources.
Oversees the visitor center.
Leads the on-campus recruitment team in the development of various on-campus events (daily events, open houses, group tours, etc).
Stays informed about current national and global higher education trends.
Leads staff training.
Develops policies, procedures, and best practices.
Sits on the office senior leadership team.
Provides leadership to various cross-functional teams focused on specific recruitment initiatives (i.e. Constituent Engagement, Workshops, Internal Pipelines, Local Outreach, Student Ambassadors, Alumni Ambassadors, Yield, etc).
Collaborates with the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications to align collateral with recruitment strategies.
Oversees the regional management of his/her direct reports.
Participates and/or leads in the selection committee process.
Represents JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions.
Works collaboratively across teams and with other offices at JHU (eg, Student Affairs, Academic Departments, Financial Aid, etc).
Special Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Previous experience managing staff.
Knowledge about the secondary school landscape.
Added knowledge about the admissions landscape within a particular area of recruitment and/or evaluation (eg. Athletics, international applicants, outreach groups, etc.).
Analytical skills—able to leverage data to inform both admissions and recruitment decisions.
Project management—demonstrated initiative, problem-solving, attention to detail, and team management skills.
Ability to manage relationships in a complex environment, both internally and externally.
Public speaking.
Volunteer management (students, alumni, faculty). (Preferred)
Broader knowledge of the higher education field. (Preferred)
Additional Requirements for the Job
Ability to travel.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required.
Seven years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
