Position Description

The Director of Slate Technology and Data Analytics provides strategic and operational leadership for Manhattan University's enrollment technology, data, analytics, and reporting ecosystem. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, the Director serves as the principal product owner and administrator for Technolutions Slate and translates institutional priorities into secure, efficient, student-centered processes that strengthen recruitment, admission, yield, enrollment, retention, and long-term financial sustainability.

The Director partners with Admissions, Marketing and Communications, Financial Aid, Jasper Central, Information Technology Services, Institutional Research and Assessment, Academic Affairs, Finance, faculty, and academic leadership to establish shared data definitions, improve cross-functional workflows, and deliver timely, actionable intelligence. The role advances Manhattan University's transition from reactive operations to disciplined Strategic Enrollment Management through stronger CRM governance, automation, funnel analytics, forecasting, campaign attribution, and continuous improvement. The Director carries out this work in a manner consistent with the University's person-centered Lasallian Catholic mission, respect for human dignity, ethical conduct, access, student success, and responsible stewardship of institutional resources.

Job Responsibilities

Slate Strategy, Administration, and Product Ownership

  • Serve as the primary Slate administrator and institutional product owner for enrollment-related functionality, with responsibility for platform strategy, governance, configuration, release management, testing, documentation, and continuous optimization.
  • Design and maintain applications, forms, portals, events, decision workflows, Reader processes, communications, permissions, rules, queues, scheduler functions, and other Slate capabilities supporting undergraduate, graduate, transfer, international, and continuing student populations.
  • Maintain a prioritized CRM roadmap aligned with the University's Strategic Enrollment Management plan, enrollment targets, student-service standards, and available resources.
  • Establish development, testing, quality-assurance, deployment, change-control, and rollback practices that reduce operational risk and protect business continuity during critical recruitment and enrollment periods.
  • Monitor platform updates and emerging capabilities, including Slate AI, and recommend adoption only after evaluating business value, data readiness, privacy, accessibility, security, bias, accuracy, and appropriate human oversight.

Data Governance, Integration, Security, and Compliance

  • Lead enrollment data governance by establishing data definitions, ownership, quality standards, access controls, retention practices, and an authoritative source framework for key enrollment measures.
  • Build, monitor, document, and troubleshoot secure integrations among Slate, Ellucian Banner, financial aid systems, application services, marketing platforms, identity and access tools, Tableau or Power BI, and other approved University systems using APIs, web services, secure file transfer, SQL, and available middleware.
  • Conduct recurring audits of records, rules, imports, permissions, queries, reports, communications, and integrations; identify root causes and drive issues through documented resolution.
  • Apply role-based access and least-privilege principles, support single sign-on and multifactor authentication where applicable, and partner with Information Technology Services on incident response, risk assessment, vendor review, disaster recovery, and continuity planning.
  • Ensure adherence to FERPA, University privacy and security policies, records-retention requirements, accessibility standards, ethical recruitment practices, and applicable federal and state requirements.

Analytics, Forecasting, and Decision Support

  • Develop and maintain trusted dashboards, scorecards, recurring reports, and self-service tools that provide timely visibility into inquiry generation, applications, admits, deposits, melt, enrollment, retention, net tuition revenue, discounting, campaign performance, event conversion, engagement signals, and barriers to enrollment.
  • Provide weekly and cycle-based funnel reporting with year-over-year, goal, cohort, geography, program, source, and student-population comparisons; clearly identify risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
  • Reconcile Slate recruitment, application, deposit, and enrollment reporting with Banner, payment systems, and official institutional reporting in partnership with Institutional Research, Finance, and relevant system owners. Document cohort definitions, reporting dates, status mappings, and historical snapshots, and explain material differences before reports are presented to leadership.
  • Support enrollment forecasting, scenario planning, predictive modeling, territory and market analysis, recruitment-source evaluation, and resource allocation for first-year, transfer, graduate, international, and other priority populations.
  • Develop measurement frameworks for communication and marketing effectiveness, including attribution, cost per inquiry or applicant, conversion, return on investment, and channel performance.
  • Present complex findings in concise, decision-ready formats for the President, Cabinet, Board committees, deans, and enrollment leadership while communicating limitations, assumptions, and data quality considerations.

Student Experience, Automation, and Operational Improvement

  • Use CRM design, automation, behavioral triggers, and workflow orchestration to reduce manual work, shorten response times, remove applicant friction, and deliver timely, personalized, accessible communications and next steps.
  • Partner with enrollment and academic teams to implement shared interaction logging, barrier-code triage, routing, escalation, and resolution tracking that support proactive outreach and coordinated service to students and families.
  • Continuously assess portals, forms, communications, checklists, event experiences, and decision processes for usability, clarity, mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and equitable outcomes.
  • Lead process mapping and redesign initiatives; establish service levels, operating procedures, controls, and documentation for high-volume and high-risk enrollment processes.

Leadership, Partnership, and Enablement

  • Serve as the principal liaison among Enrollment Management and Marketing, Admissions, Jasper Central, Information Technology Services, Institutional Research and Assessment, Financial Aid, Finance, Academic Affairs, and external technology partners.
  • Chair or facilitate a cross-functional Slate and enrollment-data governance group that prioritizes requests, resolves ownership questions, reviews change impacts, and monitors completion of approved initiatives.
  • Develop a community of practice for Slate users through role-based training, office hours, user guides, release notes, data dictionaries, and knowledge-transfer plans that reduce reliance on individual employees or consultants.
  • Manage assigned vendors, consultants, contracts, and project budgets; monitor deliverables, service quality, risk, and return on investment.
  • Supervise and develop assigned CRM, analytics, operations, student, or project staff, as applicable, and promote a culture of accountability, service, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Other Duties

  • Lead special projects and provide strategic support to the President and the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing as assigned to advance the goals of Manhattan University.
  • Responsibilities may evolve as institutional priorities, technology, regulations, and student needs change.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, data analytics, computer science, business, higher education, statistics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience administering Slate or a comparable enterprise CRM in higher education, including substantial experience with configuration, workflows, reporting, permissions, communications, integrations, and production support.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SQL and relational data concepts; experience developing decision-ready dashboards and reports in Slate and a business-intelligence platform such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating CRM, student information, financial aid, application, marketing, and analytics platforms through APIs, web services, secure file transfer, or middleware.
  • Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, access management, privacy, information security, FERPA, documentation, testing, and change-control practices.
  • Ability to translate enrollment strategy and business needs into scalable technical solutions, manage competing priorities, lead projects to completion, and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Evidence of sound judgment, discretion, initiative, attention to detail, customer service, collaborative leadership, and commitment to ethical and responsible use of data and emerging technologies.
  • Strong appreciation for and ability to advance Manhattan University's Lasallian Catholic mission and person-centered approach to education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Advanced Slate expertise across Deliver, Reader, portals, forms, events, Scheduler, query and report builders, configurable joins, rules, permissions, integrations, and Slate AI.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner, Common Application and other application services, digital marketing and attribution platforms, student-success workflows, predictive analytics, and enterprise data visualization.
  • Experience supporting Strategic Enrollment Management across undergraduate, graduate, transfer, and international populations in a competitive, tuition-dependent, or urban private-university environment.
  • Experience leading CRM governance, data stewardship, process redesign, change management, vendor relationships, and staff development.
