Title: Director of Tax, Private Client Advisors (Trust, Estate, Gift tax) Location: Multiple CA locations (Irvine, Woodland Hills, Downtown Los Angeles, San Ramon, San Jose, San Francisco, Century City, El Segundo) Salary: $195K–$265K base (DOE & location)
Overview
A growing public accounting firm is seeking a Tax Director to lead high-net-worth individual and fiduciary tax engagements. This role focuses on complex tax planning and compliance across estate, gift, and trust matters, along with team leadership and business development.
Key Responsibilities
Review complex tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, including closely held entities, trusts, estates, and gift tax filings
Advise clients on tax implications of personal and business transactions
Lead large, multi-client engagements, ensuring quality, timelines, and profitability
Conduct and oversee research on complex tax issues; prepare technical memoranda
Mentor and develop managers and supervisors; oversee engagement workflow, budgets, and staffing
Collaborate across service lines to identify and drive cross-selling opportunities
Participate in business development efforts and client relationship expansion
Contribute to thought leadership through publications, training, and speaking engagements
Stay current on tax law changes and provide guidance and training internally
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field
Active CPA, EA or JD
8+ years of public accounting tax experience
4+ years in a leadership/managerial role
Strong expertise in high-net-worth individual, trust, estate, and gift taxation
Deep knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations
Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex client engagements
Preferred
Master's in Taxation or Accounting
