Job Responsibilities:

  • Accompany students to designated classes and assist with navigating the physical classroom environment as needed.

  • Provide verbal descriptions of visual course components, read and scribe for students, and assist with accessing class materials (e.g., handouts, textbooks).

  • Offer comprehensive note-taking support during lectures while ensuring students can actively participate in discussions.

  • Assist students with the use of assistive technologies and software to access digital resources effectively.

  • Serve as a trained reader, scribe, or test proctor during exams and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the testing center.

  • Conduct biweekly accessibility inspections of campus facilities to ensure proper functioning of elevators, doors, and furniture placement.

  • Collaborate with Student Success, Student Life, and other campus organizations to ensure accessible programming and events.

  • Assist in planning and executing events for the Student Accessibility, Support, and Success Office.

  • Partner with ABLE and other campus organizations to promote disability awareness and inclusion.

  • Create and maintain digital signage and social media content to raise awareness about accessibility and disability-related topics.

  • Answer incoming calls to the Student Accessibility office and provide basic office support.

  • Create resources to streamline accessibility-related information for students.

  • Review Maryville online content for accessibility compliance and provide feedback.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current full-time undergraduate student at Maryville University.

  • Background in relevant content areas is preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a supportive role is preferred but not required.

Physical Demands

  • Will have to be able to assist those with physical disabilities

Skills Required:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service.

  • Highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated with a creative mindset.

  • Strong empathy and understanding of individuals with disabilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with assistive technologies is a plus.

Position Pay: $15/hr

Hours per week: 10 hrs

Start Date: 08/24/2026

End Date: 05/02/2027
