Job Summary:
This position is located in the District of Columbia Department of Health (DC Health). This position is responsible for collecting case investigation data, providing technical assistance to internal and external partners for case reporting, and conducting assigned disease investigations for the purposes of initiating individual intervention and prevention services and monitoring population trends for program planning and implementation. They will work under the supervision of the Disease Investigation Program Manager and are expected to conduct these activities in both steady-state and outbreak scenarios.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of this position will serves as primary Disease Investigators for infectious diseases, and will be responsible for monitoring data sources for incoming case reports and completing the investigation of events pertaining to infectious diseases in District residents. This includes conducting interviews with DC residents, following up on test results, making recommendations on post-exposure prophylaxis, and providing education and prevention messages. The incumbent will be responsible for communicating with healthcare providers to complete case reports, obtain final test results, and complete contact trading as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for compiling and entering data and reporting notifiable diseases to federal partners and other pertinent stakeholders.
Qualifications and Education
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the line of progression. Examples of specialized experience include: designing and performing disease investigation studies to evaluate public health issues and producing reports on findings as a result of epidemiological studies.
Bachelor''s or graduate higher level degree, major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position is preferred.
Working Conditions/Environment
The work is sedentary. There may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying light items. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. The work is performed in a typical office setting which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Normal safety precautions are required.
