Job Functions:

• Responsible for handling multiple channels of communication simultaneously, such as radio, telephone or computer messaging.
• 911 Dispatchers often must prioritize multiple incoming calls and radio requests without getting overwhelmed, knowing their decisions play a critical factor in emergency response to incident.
• Dispatchers determine the nature and priority of calls advise callers of best course of action while on the line; and use Emergency Medical Dispatch guide cards to quickly and properly give pre-arrival medical instructions to help treat patients until First Responders arrive.
• Perform clerical duties, driver's license checks, process wanted persons, records of missing persons, stolen and recovered property and more via the National Crime Information Center database system.
• Utilize radio console, emergency telephone, mapping system and computer aided dispatch system to monitor and record the exact location of on-duty responders.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Applicant to be a US Citizen at least 18 years of age with no criminal record
• High School Diploma or GED.
• A valid TN Driver's License is required and must remain valid as a condition of continued employment.
• Must pass written examination, typing test of 35 wpm, physical and psychological exam, drug screen, and background investigation.
• Required the ability to work in a 24/7 emergency communication center environment.

Education, Training and Experience:

• General knowledge of Public Safety, Security, and Police Policies and Procedures.
• Knowledge of emergency Fire/Medical Dispatch Procedures.
• Basic knowledge of the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Database.
• Ability to type over 35 wpm and possess basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
• The ability to communicate facts in a clear and concise manner.

Special Requirements:

• Must be able to work flexible shifts, including weekends, and holidays.
• May be required to sit for extended periods.
• Must successfully pass a background and driver's license check, a psychological exam, and a physical exam, including a drug screen.
