The Dispensary Store Manager leads the day-to-day operation of LiveHappy's licensed retail dispensary. This position is accountable for compliant operations, team performance, inventory and cash controls, customer experience, and achievement of sales and profitability goals. The Manager provides visible, hands-on leadership while remaining primarily responsible for management, decision-making, coaching and oversight of the store and its employees.
Leadership and People Management
· Direct, schedule and oversee assistant managers, shift leads, budtenders and other retail employees to maintain safe, compliant and efficient coverage.
· Participate meaningfully in recruiting, interviewing, selection, onboarding, promotion, performance evaluation, corrective action and separation decisions.
· Set clear performance expectations; provide timely coaching, recognition and corrective feedback; and document performance matters in partnership with Human Resources.
· Build a professional, accountable and service-oriented culture that supports teamwork, respectful communication and consistent execution.
· Ensure required product, safety, security, compliance and operational training is completed and reinforced through observation and follow-up.
Sales and Customer Experience
· Translate company objectives into daily, weekly and monthly store goals for sales, margin, labor, customer retention and service quality.
· Monitor sales trends, traffic, conversion, average transaction value, promotional performance and customer feedback; take corrective action when results are below expectations.
· Maintain a welcoming, efficient and educational customer experience while resolving escalated concerns professionally and consistently.
· Coordinate with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing and Compliance on promotions, product availability, merchandising and customer communications.
· Ensure employees describe products accurately and responsibly without making unsupported medical or therapeutic claims.
Regulatory Compliance
· Operate the dispensary in accordance with California Department of Cannabis Control requirements, applicable local permits and ordinances, and LiveHappy policies and procedures.
· Maintain controls for identification and age verification, purchase limits, customer eligibility, packaging and labeling, secure storage, sales transactions, returns and product destruction.
· Ensure timely and accurate entries in METRC, the point-of-sale system and required logs; promptly investigate and escalate discrepancies.
· Maintain inspection and audit readiness; support regulatory visits; preserve required records; and ensure corrective actions are completed by assigned deadlines.
· Report suspected diversion, theft, fraud, policy violations, security events and regulatory concerns promptly through established channels.
Inventory, Cash and Security Controls
· Oversee receiving, transfers, storage, cycle counts, full inventory counts, reconciliations and variance investigations.
· Monitor shrink, damaged or expired product, stock levels and product movement; coordinate timely corrective action with Compliance and Purchasing.
· Enforce cash-handling, register, safe, deposit, refund, discount and end-of-day reconciliation procedures.
· Maintain opening, closing, key, alarm, access-control and visitor procedures and ensure cameras and other security controls are not obstructed or bypassed.
Business and Administrative Management
· Manage store labor, scheduling, overtime, attendance and operating expenses within approved budgets and business needs.
· Review store financial and operating reports, identify material variances and implement practical improvement plans.
· Prepare accurate and timely reports for leadership regarding sales, labor, inventory, compliance, incidents and employee performance.
· Maintain adequate supplies, functioning equipment, organized work areas and prompt escalation of facilities or technology issues.
· Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, accommodations, leave, investigations and consistent policy administration.
· Net sales, gross margin, average transaction value, conversion and customer retention.
· Labor cost, scheduling effectiveness, attendance, turnover and training completion.
· Inventory accuracy, shrink, cash variance and timely reconciliation of discrepancies.
· Regulatory and internal audit results, incident trends and timely completion of corrective actions.
· Customer-service quality, complaint resolution and consistent execution of store standards.
· At least 21 years of age.
· High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in business, retail management or a related field preferred.
· At least three years of progressively responsible retail or hospitality management experience, including at least two years in a licensed cannabis retail environment.
· Demonstrated experience supervising employees, managing schedules, coaching performance and participating in hiring and corrective-action decisions.
· Working knowledge of California cannabis retail regulations, METRC, point-of-sale systems, inventory controls and cash-management practices.
· Ability to interpret sales and financial reports and manage labor, margin and operating performance.
· Strong judgment, organization, communication, conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retail reporting systems; experience with Treez or a comparable cannabis POS platform preferred.
· Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.
· Ability to satisfy any background-check, fingerprinting, badging or work-permit requirements imposed by applicable law.
· On-site position requiring regular availability for mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays based on store needs.
· May be required to respond to urgent operational, security, staffing or compliance matters outside the scheduled workday.
· Work is performed in a licensed cannabis retail environment with frequent customer interaction, cash handling, video surveillance and noticeable cannabis odor.
· Regularly communicate, observe store activity and use computers, registers and other retail equipment.
· Frequently stand and walk throughout the store; occasionally sit, bend, reach, climb stairs and move throughout storage and secured areas.
· Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
