    Job Title: District Security Systems Technician Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt

    Dept./School: Technology Pay Grade: Clerical 7

    Primary Purpose:

    The District Security Systems Technician is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting districtwide physical security technology systems. This includes video surveillance, access control, visitor management systems, Raptor-related hardware and software, badge/access systems, and emergency management-related technology.

    This position will also support campus technology needs as assigned. While the primary focus of the role is districtwide security systems, the position is a part of the Technology Department's campus support structure and may assist with campus-level technology support, work orders, classroom technology, staff devices, student devices, printers, displays, and other operational needs.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate degree, technical training, or equivalent work experience preferred
    • Industry certifications related to networking, security systems, cabling, hardware support, or technology support preferred
    • Valid Texas driver's license

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Knowledge of video surveillance platforms, cameras, access control systems, visitor management systems, and related peripherals
    • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, network connectivity, cabling, and user access issues
    • Basic understanding of LAN/WAN/WLAN, TCP/IP, and network-connected devices
    • Ability to support district systems in coordination with network, systems, and campus support staff
    • Ability to conduct on-site inspections of district facilities and identify technology/security system issues
    • Ability to communicate professionally with campus staff, administrators, vendors, and department leadership
    • Strong customer service skills
    • Ability to write basic procedures, provide training, and explain technical information in a clear and helpful manner
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to document work accurately
    • Ability to prioritize work orders and respond to time-sensitive campus or district needs

    Experience:

    • Experience supporting technology systems, hardware, software, and network-connected devices
    • Experience with video surveillance, access control, visitor management, badge systems, or related security systems preferred
    • Experience working in a K-12 school district or public sector environment preferred
    • Experience working with vendors, contractors, campus staff, and district departments preferred

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Security Systems Support

    • Support, maintain, and troubleshoot districtwide physical security technology systems, including video surveillance, access control, visitor management, Raptor-related systems, and emergency management-related technology.
    • Assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of security-related hardware, including cameras, badge readers, door access components, kiosks, scanners, printers, intercoms, and other related devices.
    • Support campus and department staff with access control needs, including basic scheduling, access troubleshooting, door access concerns, badge issues, and system-related questions.
    • Support Raptor visitor management systems and related hardware, including kiosks, printers, scanners, and other connected components.
    • Provide technology support for systems used in visitor screening, background-check-related workflows, and campus check-in processes. This role supports the technology platform only and does not make approval, denial, HR, or law enforcement determinations.
    • Assist with video surveillance support, including camera troubleshooting, viewing access issues, hardware replacement coordination, system checks, and basic incident-related video support as approved by district leadership.
    • Assist authorized personnel with locating, saving, or archiving video records when directed by appropriate district leadership.
    • Review security system issues and trends, such as offline cameras, access control issues, door hardware concerns, failed devices, or repeated campus problems, and report concerns to Technology leadership.
    • Conduct routine checks of security-related technology systems to help ensure cameras, access control devices, kiosks, and related equipment remain operational.
    • Help develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and basic user guides for security systems and related campus processes.
    • Provide training and support to campus and department personnel on approved use of security-related technology systems.
    • Work with vendors and contractors on troubleshooting, repair, installation, quotes, project coordination, and system upgrades related to physical security technology.
    • Recommend improvements, upgrades, or changes to security systems based on documented needs, recurring issues, campus feedback, and long-term district planning.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of security-related assets, system issues, repairs, service requests, vendor visits, and completed work.
    • Respond to urgent security system issues when needed, including after-hours support when approved or directed by Technology leadership.

    Campus Technology Support

    • Serve as part of the Technology Department's campus support team and assist with campus technology needs as assigned.
    • Support campus work orders related to staff devices, student devices, classroom technology, displays, document cameras, printers, projectors, connectivity, and other campus technology equipment.
    • Provide backup support to campus technicians during high-volume periods, staff absences, start-of-school preparation, testing windows, device distribution, Chromebook collection, and other districtwide technology events.
    • Assist with assigned campus coverage as needed based on workload, geography, ticket volume, and district priorities.
    • Communicate professionally and promptly with campus staff regarding work order status, delays, next steps, and completed work.
    • Document all work in the district's ticketing system and keep ticket notes updated with clear actions taken, pending needs, and follow-up steps.
    • Escalate issues to the appropriate Technology Department staff when additional network, systems, security, vendor, or leadership support is needed.
    • Support district technology initiatives, including device deployment, inventory, equipment moves, classroom setup, summer projects, and other department priorities.

    Other Duties

    • Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, security, and district information.
    • Follow district policies, technology procedures, safety guidelines, and acceptable use expectations.
    • Participate in professional development related to technology support, security systems, customer service, networking, and district operations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
