Diverse Abilities Swim Instructor

The YMCA is a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As the nation’s longest-standing provider of swim lessons, the Y plays a vital role in promoting water safety and skill development.

We are currently seeking a Diverse Abilities Swim Instructor to provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes designed for individuals with diverse abilities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Instruct swim lessons aligned with YMCA standards
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
  • Motivate and support swimmers with diverse abilities
  • Demonstrate and teach proper swimming techniques
  • Uphold and model YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility

Schedule & Availability

  • Saturdays: 12:00–1:00 PM
  • Additional private lessons available

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Required experience working with children with diverse abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills, including 4 of the 6 strokes in good form per YMCA standards
  • Preferred: YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
  • Certifications a plus:
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
    • Basic First Aid
  • Ability to perform physical tasks required for swim instruction

Compensation

  • $15/hour to start

All positions require the ability to obtain PA State Police, PA Child Abuse History, FBI Fingerprint and National Sex Offenders Registry Clearances.  If you do not have current clearances the Y will help you obtain them.  Free clearances are based on a six-month retention.
