Job Summary: The Donor Communications Specialist is responsible for the creation and development of compelling donor centered fundraising messaging across multiple channels including, but not limited to, direct mail appeals, newsletters, stewardship materials, online giving campaigns and email communications. This position supports donor acquisition, retention, cultivation and stewardship efforts through strategic storytelling and communications strategies. The Donor Communications Specialist will assist in the execution and expansion of a comprehensive donor stewardship program that will generate, maintain, and improve philanthropic support for the organization. This position will work extensively within the development team’s email platform, donor database and web content management system and must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines while collaborating effectively across departments.

Essential Functions:

  1. Works with Annual Fund Director to develop communication strategies and produce compelling written content for direct mail fundraising appeals, newsletters, stewardship communications and email communications.
  2. Helps develop innovative and engaging ways to connect and communicate with current donors and to acquire new supporters.
  3. Collaborates with the Annual Fund Director to create a plan and calendar for online communications.
  4. Serves as a liaison with the communications department.
  5. Maintains and manages the development team’s email platform to engage, solicit and cultivate donors year-round through email communications.
  6. Creates, edits and updates donor acknowledgement letters and stewardship communications to ensure meaningful donor engagement.
  7. Assists in creating, writing and maintaining content for online donation forms and surveys for fundraising event purposes.
  8. Collaborates with program staff and organizational leaders to gather stories, testimonials, program outcomes, photographs and impact data for donors communications and fundraising initiatives.
  9. Assists with fundraising events as needed.
  10. Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws regarding donations and follows all NorthStar Care Community standards for donor integrity.
  11. Actively participates in meetings at the individual, group, and organizational levels, both within and external to the organization, to achieve desired outcomes.
  12. Utilizes allocated supplies, technology and resources appropriately to ensure business outcomes are met.
  13. Actively participates in internal and external education, training, in-services, and other activities to promote personal and professional growth.
  14. Adjusts to changes in workload and schedules based on changing departmental and organizational priorities.
  15. Adheres to organizational Code of Conduct, policies and procedures and all regulatory and legal requirements.
  16. Adheres to the NorthStar standards to care for every person, every time, 100% of the time.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Communications preferred. Experience with donor databases such as Raiser’s Edge desired.
  2. One (1) year experience in the development arena preferred.
  3. Concentration in donor communications, grants and/or proposal writing preferred.
  4. Prior experience in a healthcare organization preferred.
  5. Must demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  6. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  7. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to promote positive, constructive relationships with communication and collaboration at all levels with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  8. Must demonstrate ability to maintain accountability and work independently and creatively while functioning as part of a cooperative, coordinated team.
  9. The physical and sensory demands of the position include vision, effective speech, and hearing for extensive telephone contact; repetitive motion; driving or riding in a motor vehicle; standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching; and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.
  10. Must be able to work variable hours/shifts and/or days, including weekends. Must have the ability to occasionally work extended days, as necessary.
  11. Must have reliable transportation.
  12. Must be eligible to work in the United States.
