Manufacturing Process Engineer II
Redford, MI
Afternoons 3p 11p. OT is required Estimating 18 hours of OT per week
100% Onsite
Contract: 24 Months. The manager does have a goal to convert the contractor at the end of the contract to an FTE.
Must be USC, Green card or TN Visa. No candidates that require sponsorship accepted

Summary
Support Machining activities and problem solving in machining lines including Cylinder Head Machining, but not excluding other Machining Dept opportunities. Work will include daily production activities; shop floor management and alignment with cross-functional teams for continuous improvement. Hand off's to and from other shifts for transparency. Active engagement with maintenance counterparts to resolve downtime issues and bring problems to close. Taking ownership of topics and bringing them to completion. Direct interface with line supervisors and hourly workforce ensuring adherence to work methods and production metrics.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide engineering expertise in managing materials delivered from the integrated supply chain
  • Drive Continuous Improvement activities within the manufacturing area to meet and exceed operational objectives and goals
  • Provide input to improve current manufacturing process including design and development of new manufacturing processes.
  • Technical capability with knowledge of automated processes
  • Troubleshoot problems on the shop floor, develop and implement process improvements to reduce costs and cycle times.
  • Audit, teach, and drive execution to the benchmark standards while acting as a catalyst for continuous improvement
  • Develop and execute projects to achieve company targets for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People (SQDCP).
  • Develop cause and effect analysis, Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control plan
  • Focus on reducing costs of existing product through labor/machine efficiency, scrap reduction, OEE improvements.
  • Conduct Install/qualification of tools including Measurement Systems Analysis (MCA), Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR), Process Stability and Capability (CP/CPK), and equipment/process matching.

Basic Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Good understanding of Bill of Materials, Quality ISO standards, PFMEA
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Experience in process development in an integrated team environment in Project Management, Six Sigma, LEAN
  • Proficient in Client 365 software tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Must be proficient with CNC Programming, able to interpret technical drawings and geometrical tolerances.

Basic Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Master's degree in related field
  • Strong working knowledge of Statistical Analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Either experience with CNC's, robotic machining, cold forming/stamping of parts or automated systems
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement and Lean techniques
  • Proficiency with AutoCad LT
  • Knowledge of maximo and prisma - internal systems for spare parts/maintenance order management and production monitoring.
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills

Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors Degree
  • Typically requires 2-4 years of relevant experience or 6 years experience in lieu of degree

  • As a process engineer the job is to have knowledge of CNC machining Ability to read a blueprint and understand how something is dimensioned

  • Manufacturing experience is important. This isn t an entry level experience
  • Candidate should have 1-3 experience. 2-4 years of experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor s Degree is required
  • Client office proficiency is required

Typical Day:
  • Division/Business Group: Redford Operations TT/ODM
  • Purpose of Team: Machining of Cylinder Heads and Connecting Rods
  • Work Environment: Plant
  • Process Engineering / Manufacturing engineering on the afternoon shift on cylinder head machining line. This team runs 7 days a week. 5 days a week working 40 hours a week is the normal work schedule. Weekends are voluntary and the team works on a voluntary basis to cover weekend work.
  • This candidate will be responsible for reviewing measurement reports and ensuring accuracy.
  • Candidate will be responsible for making adjustments in machines when necessary.
  • When a machine is faulted and it has stopped producing parts This candidate would be responsible for digging in and understanding why that is occurring, why it has stopped running, or why it has faulted.
  • This candidate will also be responsible for compiling end-of-shift reports. Summary of issues had, and what items require follow up.
  • This candidate will be using an internal DTNA system to monitor production and inventory
