Minimum Qualifications

Education:

• High School diploma or GED.

Experience:

• Candidates must possess a clean New York State driver license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
• Candidates may be required to possess the appropriate level CDL Class A, B, C or General Class D license.
• Maintenance of a clean valid NYS drivers license is a requirement for continuing employment.

Certifications/Licenses:

• Clean New York State Driver License appropriate for the vehicle being operated.
• CDL Class A, B, C, or General Class D license may be required depending on vehicle assignment.

Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Location Requirement: Onsite

Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday

About the Role

This is a responsible non-supervisory position. Incumbent performs all duties within guidelines provided by the Program Director and other policies and procedures, such as the Authorized Driver Handbook. Duties include operating and maintaining transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and client courtesy; performing daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; performing minor maintenance tasks on vehicles when necessary; fueling vehicles; ensuring scheduled vehicle maintenance is completed and reported; documenting client usage; preparing trip reports; preparing accident and incident reports as necessary; assisting clients in and out of vehicles as needed; providing safety briefings; and performing other services as requested by management when not engaged in transportation service.

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate assigned vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
• Maintain defensive driving practices.
• Provide a communication link between clients and staff, and between the program where a client resides and the destination program, including relaying information and delivering paperwork.
• Assist clients in and out of vehicles as necessary and operate ramps, lifts, and securement devices as needed.
• Read and interpret maps, driving directions, and road signs in English to plan efficient travel routes.
• Present safety briefings to passengers prior to each trip departure.
• Keep assigned vehicles clean inside and outside.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including trip sheets, transportation forms, maintenance logs, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, and vehicle condition reports.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicles as required.
• Fuel assigned vehicles.
• Coordinate major and periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions.
• Respond immediately to accidents or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers.
• May provide peer counseling to clients if instructed by a supervisor.
• Serve as a positive role model while providing transportation services.
• Attend all required training, including assigned safety and safe driver courses.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
