The Department of Customer Services (CSD), Division of Motor Vehicles, is looking to fill one (1) Driver License Examiner II (Non-CDL) position on Oahu. This position is responsible for supervising the driver license activities of the substation, as well as administering written examinations and conducting road performance tests.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of a driver license substation.
  • Direct, train, and evaluate subordinate staff, including establishing performance standards.
  • Determine driver license eligibility and take licensing actions, including suspension or revocation when authorized.
  • Administer and oversee written, vision, and road performance examinations and issues driver licenses.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Three (3) years of supervisory, driver training instructional, regulatory or related experience, including or supplemented by one (1) year of frequent public contact which involved explaining rules and regulations to others in determining their eligibility or non-eligibility for licenses, benefits or similar matters.

Applicable Skills Needed

  • Comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations, and safety standards governing commercial and motor vehicle licensing and roadway operations.

  • Proficient in operating a variety of commercial and motor vehicles and administering standardized road performance tests to evaluate driver competency.

  • Strong ability to identify hazards, apply safe driving techniques, and act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

  • Effective in explaining regulations and procedures, providing clear oral instructions, evaluating performance objectively, and interacting tactfully with the public.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:

Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license (Type 3), at the time of application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Candidates must possess a good driving record, as evidenced by a certified traffic abstract with no moving violations within the past three (3) years, in order to be appointed to positions in this class; and must possess an appropriate valid drivers license for at least three (3) years immediately preceding appointment.

Verification Requirement: At the time of interview, you must provide a current certified traffic abstract issued by the District Courts.
