Dutchess County Community Connections
United Way of the Dutchess-Orange's mission is to support the health, education, and the financial stability of every person in our community. Our project seeks to establish permanent infrastructure for educational support for financially vulnerable households in the Dutchess region. VISTA members will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities that enhance access to services and resources that contribute to improved educational outcomes for low-income children, including information sharing with hundreds of school social workers and school nurses, empowering and engaging low-income community members to help make project decisions and design best practice policy strategies, and developing strong partnerships with existing education programs that improve educational outcomes. This VISTA member will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities that will enhance and develop United Way''s Enhancing Educational Outcomes Project. Such tasks will include: • Work with local schools to build sustainable wraparound service systems that connect students and families to essential resources. • Attend community coalition meetings and identify best practices. • Research/review resource development strategies and systems for educational programs at UWDOR and partners. • Other activities that will increase organizational capabilities to remove economic barriers for individuals and families over the course of the year.
