ED Overview The George Washington University Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) provides comprehensive care for patients with acute medical conditions, trauma, and critical illnesses. As a Level I Trauma Center, the ED at GW Hospital is equipped to handle the most complex emergency cases, with highly specialized teams available 24/7. The Emergency Department is a 62-bed unit, including resuscitation rooms, fast-track areas, and specialized spaces for trauma, cardiac emergencies, and stroke. Our ED is supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities, with rapid access to radiology, laboratory, and surgical services. The ED is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and a highly skilled team of emergency-trained nurses. Our focus is on delivering immediate, patient-centered care while maintaining close collaboration with other specialties to ensure seamless patient transitions and long-term outcomes. Job Summary: As a Registered Nurse in our Level I Trauma Center's Emergency Department, you will be at the forefront of providing critical care to patients with urgent and life-threatening medical conditions. Our Emergency Department is known for its fast-paced environment and its commitment to excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. You will work alongside a dedicated team of medical professionals to deliver high-quality care and support to patients and their families during critical times. Main Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a dynamic, challenging emergency department setting. Perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement care for patients across a wide range of conditions. Administer medications, perform procedures, and monitor patient responses to treatment. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes. Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care. Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and research opportunities. Qualifications BSN or currently enrolled. DC RN License, or eligibility At least 1 year of clinical experience in an emergency department or critical care setting is preferred. Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS required. TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification within 1 year of hire Exceptional clinical skills and judgment. Strong ability to work under pressure and react effectively in emergencies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
