For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Interpretation and education OR BA/BS Degree in Education, or History OR Previously completed training in classroom instruction, curriculum development

  • Familiarity with CA curriculum standards for history and social studies
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, MS Outlook
Duties:

The enrollee will support the John Muir NHS, Eugene O?Neill NHS, Port Chicago Naval Magazine NMem, Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front NHP?s education programming. Existing curriculum-based programs (Oral History, also Every Kid Outdoors) as well as youth leadership programming will be revisited and revised, working with park and partner staff. Additional education programming will be researched, designed, created and piloted as necessary. Additional curriculum work at the other three parks may be included.

  • Revise existing curriculum, and/or develop new curriculum, for education programs and youth leadership programs. Programs must be relevant to the park?s interpretive themes and conform to California as well as national teaching standards. Programs must also fall in accordance with current educational pedagogy and interpretive principles by involving inquiry-based methods, hands-on activities, and best practices. Format may include interactive methods, audio-visual, web-based, computer generated, or other techniques in accordance with educational theory and NPS policy. This includes research and writing of pre- and post-visit instructional material for students and teachers. Additional curriculum work may be added to task agreement.   55%
  • Collaborate with park staff to conduct pilot programs with K-12 students, as part of curriculum development and finalization. Programs may take place in a classroom setting, on-site as part of a field trip, during out-of-school time as part of a youth leadership program, or virtually. Lead activities, troubleshoots logistics, and models educational and interpretive techniques.   20%
  • Provide training for park staff, docents, volunteers, partners, and interns in the delivery of education and youth leadership programs. Identify training needs/gaps and collaborate with the site lead to address them. Coach staff, docents and volunteers and audit their program delivery whenever feasible. In partnership with park staff, design and deliver training sessions for teachers relating to the education and youth leadership programs.   15%
  • Work with park, partner, and school district staff to learn about the history of the park?s education programs, understand the logistical constraints involved in conducting them, and identify additional school district or partner needs that factor into designing the programs.   10%

  • Physical requirements: Work is generally performed in an office setting, but also in the visitor center or outdoors at other locations within the park.
