The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the **Numu (Northern Paiute)**, **Newe (Western Shoshone)**, and **Washeshu (Washoe)**. These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group’s name means **“The People”** in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. As a Full-Time Education Tutor at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a vital role in supporting American Indian students from grades K through 12 under the guidance of the Education Advisor and the Education Manager. This position allows you to deliver personalized tutorial assistance, fostering academic growth and development in a nurturing environment. Your expertise will help address the unique learning needs of each student, ensuring they receive the individualized attention necessary to thrive. To thrive as a Full-Time Education Tutor with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you must possess a strong foundation in key academic subjects, particularly Mathematics, English, and Reading. A high school diploma is required, while an associate's degree is preferred. Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively collaborating with students, staff, teachers, and parents, ensuring you can build trust and rapport with the community you serve. Experience in helping students with chronic absenteeism, academic challenges, or behavioral issues is highly advantageous, as you will focus on individualized support for those in need.
Familiarity with educational software or tools that aid in tracking student progress and submitting weekly reports will also enhance your effectiveness in this role. Your ability to engage with the Tribal Education Advisors and participate in monthly Education Staff Meetings will foster a collaborative and enriching environment, ultimately benefiting the students you tutor.
