EE - Tools Technician

The EE - Tools Technician assembles, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs DV/PV tester hardware and prototype systems for advanced automotive applications. This role works closely with hardware and firmware engineers, using precision soldering, electronic test equipment, and detailed documentation practices to support product development and validation of cutting-edge ADAS technology.

• Perform efficient and accurate assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of DV/PV tester hardware.
• Carry out mechanical assembly of prototype systems according to product specifications and engineering guidance.
• Perform cable qualifications, testing, and modifications to support development and validation activities.
• Utilize hand tools, microscopes, and soldering equipment to assemble and rework electronic and mechanical components.
• Inspect and solder PCBAs, including fine-pitch components, ensuring high quality and reliability.
• Solder components and perform rework under a microscope for precise and detailed electronic assembly.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics to assist in PCB bring-up, debug, and issue resolution.
• Create clear and accurate rework documentation to capture changes, methods, and results.
• Work from product specifications and written and verbal instructions provided by engineering teams.
• Interact and collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers to communicate test results, issues, and recommendations.
• Record build data and testing results in an organized and traceable manner.
• Maintain detailed documentation through all phases of development, testing, and analysis.
• Apply working knowledge of product development engineering practices in the automotive field to daily tasks.
• Adhere to ISO procedures and maintain compliance with established quality and process standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and ESD-safe work area to protect sensitive electronic components.
• Use PCB layout viewers to review board designs and support troubleshooting and rework.
• Use MS Office applications to document work, prepare reports, and communicate results.

• AA degree or equivalent work experience in a related discipline.
• Approximately 6 years of related experience in the automotive industry, preferably as an automotive or electronics technician.
• Proven ability to solder and inspect PCBAs, including fine-pitch and small components.
• Ability to solder under a microscope for detailed and precise electronic assembly and rework.
• Hands-on experience using digital multimeters (DMM), oscilloscopes, video scopes, and similar electronic test equipment.
• Working knowledge of product development engineering practices in the automotive field.
• Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards for the acceptability of electronic assemblies.
• Ability to adhere to ISO procedures and maintain compliance with quality and process requirements.
• Familiarity with PCB layout viewer tools to support debugging and rework.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, testing, and assembly work.

• Experience with CAN, LIN, and other automotive communication networks and related tools.
• Experience working with automotive requirements and design processes.
• Background in automotive electronics, ADAS, or similar advanced vehicle systems.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with hardware and firmware engineers.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and translate them into precise technical work.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple builds, tests, and documentation tasks in a development environment.

This role is fully onsite at an engineering and development facility in the Auburn Hills area. The technician works primarily in a lab and workshop environment equipped with microscopes, soldering stations, ESD-safe benches, electronic test equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, and video scopes, and tools for mechanical and cable assembly. The position may require occasional driving to other nearby sites to support testing or collaboration. The work environment emphasizes adherence to ISO procedures, IPC-A-610 standards, and ESD safety practices, with a focus on maintaining a clean, organized, and professional workspace while supporting development of cutting-edge ADAS and automotive technologies.

This is a Contract position based out of Troy, MI.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
