Job Summary:
The Architectural Engineer (AE) will be responsible for the architectural design of customized AC and DC Power Modules, IT Modules, and Data Centers for three core market segments: IT, Telecom, and Industrial. This position will support customer requirements and business development activities. The AE will provide general architectural designs for Data Centers, Telecommunications Central Offices, Switching Centers, Video Hub Offices, etc., and will work directly with the module manufacturing facility to develop a detailed workshop drawing package. The AE will complete the design based on local and international building codes, including building type, occupancy classifications, ingress and egress requirements, etc. The AE will coordinate the architectural design with structural, electrical, thermal, mechanical, and controls engineering requirements. The AE will also participate in Factory and Site Acceptance Testing with a focus on general design concepts.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Serve as Architectural Engineer (AE) to provide conceptual and detailed design of building architecture in the post-sales stage.
  • Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with federal, state, municipal requirements, and building codes.
  • Detailed design of mechanical parts, including wall and floor penetrations, doors and door hardware, flashing and sealing, water mitigation, etc.
  • Create designs that meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
  • Provide detailed Schematic Design (SD), Detailed Design (DD), and Construction Drawing (CD) narratives for architectural design aspects of the solution.
  • Review and approve architectural product submittals.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical Engineers on thermal transfer calculations (fire ratings and thermal bridges).
  • Material specification architectural and finish.
  • Work with Vertiv's business units, business partners, and preferred vendors to specify the appropriate material specifications and sizes for the fabrication process.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to and during construction phases.
  • Coordinate between structural and civil work design.
  • Provide technical project coordination with customers and suppliers.
  • Perform quality control during execution.
  • Provide support for on-site module repairs (damaged paint, door malfunction, etc.).
  • Travel to fabrication facilities for design validation, workmanship reviews, engineering evaluations, and workmanship audits.
  • Communicate with customers to design the best possible solution for their needs.
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to customers.

Required Skills & Expertise:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience and subject knowledge.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License Optional.
  • Minimum 4 years of Electrical Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage switchboard/switchgear design, installation, and use.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes governing the installation and use of low-voltage switchboards/switchgear.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk engineering software, including AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Understanding of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Experience interpreting customer specification requirements.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Ability to think outside the box to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions without impacting quality, reliability, or maintainability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven project management skills.
