We have nearly 70 years of proven expertise and excel in space superiority, hypersonic defense and nuclear deterrence, digital transformation, and surface and undersea warfare domains. Our solution areas include space mission engineering, atmospheric science, digital engineering, mission assurance, and advances in modeling and simulation that together with our enterprise-wide adoption of artificial intelligence and machine learning, lead to better systems and timely, reliable decision-making. Headquartered in Chantilly, VA with 18 North American offices, Arcfield employs 2,200 engineers, scientists, analysts, IT specialists and other professionals who challenge the status quo to deliver an efficient technological advantage to our national security and defense partners. Responsibilities:

Build and Support Technology Used Aboard U.S. Navy Vessels

Are you an Electrical or Computer Engineer who enjoys hands-on engineering—not just sitting behind a desk?

Arcfield is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to support the design, development, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and modernization of imaging systems, including periscopes and photonics masts, used aboard U.S. Navy vessels.

This is an opportunity to work directly with electronics, PCBs, RF systems, hardware prototypes, test equipment, cabling, and integrated shipboard systems while collaborating with Navy customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

If you enjoy taking a technical problem into the lab, troubleshooting it, improving the design, and ultimately seeing that technology integrated into a real-world system, this could be an exciting next step in your engineering career.

What You'll Do

As an Electrical Engineer II, you will contribute throughout the engineering lifecycle—from design and prototyping through testing, integration, installation, and in-service support.

Your work may include:

  • Design and develop electrical schematics, diagrams, interfaces, and Technical Data Packages (TDPs).
  • Design, develop, modify, and integrate Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and electronic assemblies.
  • Prototype, test, troubleshoot, and debug hardware in a hands-on laboratory environment.
  • Support U.S. Navy imaging systems, including periscopes and photonics masts.
  • Perform component-level analysis and troubleshooting of electronic and electrical assemblies.
  • Work with RF electronics, including antennas, amplifiers, filters, signal distribution, and associated test equipment.
  • Develop test plans and support test readiness reviews, hardware testing, installation, troubleshooting, and certification activities.
  • Develop system interconnect diagrams, cable designs, and wire harnesses for integrated electronic systems.
  • Design and support RF, fiber, copper, and other cabling in accordance with applicable military specifications.
  • Evaluate and select military-specification and Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) components.
  • Identify obsolete components and support hardware modernization and technology-refresh efforts.
  • Perform technical analysis of electrical hardware systems and subsystems.
  • Review electrical designs, schematics, requirements, and Government Furnished Information (GFI).
  • Collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Systems Engineers to develop fully integrated solutions.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary engineering and design reviews.
  • Interface with U.S. Navy personnel, Government civilians, OEMs, subcontractors, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Support system installations, certifications, and new platform configurations as required.

Depending on the project, you may also have opportunities to work with software or firmware tools such as C++, MATLAB, Python, Java, SQL, or Verilog.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 2–4 years of relevant engineering experience; or a Master's degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical or electronic hardware design, integration, testing, or troubleshooting.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, FieldFox, or similar test equipment.
  • Familiarity with electrical design, schematic capture, simulation, or PCB tools such as Altium, OrCAD, LTspice, or similar platforms.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to support work onsite in Middletown/Newport, Rhode Island.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 10%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

Preferred:

These skills are valuable but not required to be considered:

  • S. Navy, submarine, shipboard, or defense engineering experience.
  • Experience with submarine systems.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Navy SUBSAFE program or associated policies.
  • PCB layout and board-level design experience.
  • RF electronics or RF test experience.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, firmware, or embedded systems.
  • Experience with imaging, electro-optical, photonics, sensor, or surveillance systems.
  • Experience supporting hardware modernization or component obsolescence.
  • Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks.

Why This Opportunity?

This isn't simply a traditional electrical design position. You'll have the opportunity to work on mission-focused engineering supporting sophisticated U.S. Navy systems while gaining exposure to multiple areas of electrical and systems engineering.

You'll work across disciplines and have the opportunity to expand your experience in areas such as:

PCB Design | RF Electronics | Hardware Integration | Imaging Systems | Photonics | Shipboard Systems | Testing & Troubleshooting | Prototyping | System Modernization

If you're an Electrical or Computer Engineer who enjoys hands-on technical challenges, learning new technologies, and seeing your engineering work support real-world systems, we'd like to hear from you.
