The Electrical Engineer Substation will provide substation engineering and consulting services for utility and energy clients across the United States and internationally. This role focuses on the design and development of substation physical and/or protection and control systems for projects ranging from small distribution upgrades to large-scale transmission substations. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to the resiliency, reliability, and economic operation of the electric power grid.
Perform engineering design of high-voltage substations ranging from 13kV to 500kV.
Develop proposals and scopes of work, including conceptual designs, execution plans, and technical approaches.
Prepare engineering cost estimates, labor forecasts, and project schedules.
Execute physical substation design, including:
Substation yard layouts, plans, sections, and details
Grounding and lightning protection systems
Control building layouts and arrangements
Interior and exterior raceway systems
Auxiliary AC/DC power systems
Bills of material and equipment lists
Perform protection and control (P&C) design, including:
Panel layouts and arrangements
One-line/single-line and three-line diagrams
AC schematics and DC elementaries
Equipment wiring diagrams and relay panel wiring
Prepare engineering calculations and technical reports, including grounding studies, lightning protection studies, and AC/DC load studies.
Develop equipment specifications to support procurement and factory acceptance testing.
Coordinate design efforts with multidisciplinary teams, including Civil/Structural, Transmission Line, Networks, and other engineering groups.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers.
Participate in client meetings and maintain regular communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Perform quality reviews of engineering deliverables prepared by other engineers and designers.
Provide short-term field and construction support as required.
Support business development, proposal preparation, and marketing initiatives.
Participate in additional technical activities such as relay settings, 3D/intelligent design, or professional and industry technical committees, as applicable.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program and a minimum of 3 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in consulting; OR
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred; OR
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred.
Strong knowledge of standard electrical engineering principles, practices, and procedures related to substation design.
Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, 2D/3D modeling or rendering tools, and engineering analysis software.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with utility and transmission industry standards and design practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
