Electrical Inspector I

Overview

Under direct supervision, the Electrical Inspector I is responsible for performing electrical inspections and ensuring construction is in conformance with adopted codes and ordinances. Additional responsibilities include communicating with construction contractors based on inspection results.

Responsibilities

• Performs field inspections of electrical components and ensures construction conforms to adopted codes and ordinances
• If determination of applicable code is needed
• Electrical Inspector I will defer to Senior Electrical Inspector for clarity
• Responsible for communicating inspection results with contractors and builders when clarification is requested
• Maintains all records of inspections completed and logs of issues at inspection sites
• Will ensure that all records are complete and uploaded into IPS system of record
• Under supervision of an Electrical Inspector II and the Senior, read and review plans for electrical compliance
• Required to attend training sessions related to the inspection division
• This will include attending sessions pertaining to new codes and ordinances
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non Exempt - Full-Time
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED
• Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

• TDLR Journeyman Electrical License at time of hire
• ICC Residential Electrical Inspector within twelve (12) months of hire

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
