Position Overview

Our client is seeking Electrical Power Systems and Protection Engineers to support the analysis, evaluation, and technical development of electrical distribution systems for complex commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. Opportunities are available in Austin, TX, and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, with responsibilities spanning electrical system studies, power distribution analysis, and protection engineering. Depending on the position, engineers will perform technical calculations, evaluate system performance, review electrical equipment configurations, and develop engineering recommendations that support safe and reliable electrical operations.

Ideal candidates bring a strong foundation in electrical power systems engineering and experience applying engineering principles to real-world electrical distribution challenges. Successful professionals will be comfortable interpreting single-line diagrams, evaluating electrical system characteristics, and preparing technically accurate engineering deliverables. Candidates with specialized experience in protective relays, system coordination, and electrical protection will be particularly relevant to the protection engineering opportunity, while professionals with broader electrical studies experience may be well suited to the Austin position.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical power system studies and technical analyses to evaluate system performance, equipment characteristics, and electrical distribution requirements.
• Develop and interpret engineering calculations, system models, single-line diagrams, and technical reports supporting electrical design and project execution.
• Evaluate short-circuit conditions, electrical loads, protective device coordination, and related system characteristics as applicable to the assigned position.
• Analyze electrical protection requirements and recommend appropriate equipment settings, coordination approaches, or system improvements for protection-focused assignments.
• Review electrical equipment specifications, system configurations, and engineering documentation to identify technical concerns and support reliable system operation.
• Coordinate with electrical design engineers, construction teams, and other technical stakeholders to resolve engineering questions and communicate study findings.
• Prepare clear engineering reports, calculation packages, and technical recommendations that document assumptions, findings, and proposed solutions.
• Apply relevant electrical codes, safety standards, and engineering practices when evaluating electrical systems and developing technical deliverables.

Requirements

• Relevant professional experience in electrical engineering, power systems analysis, or electrical protection engineering appropriate to the assigned position.
• Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, including major equipment, system configurations, and operating principles.
• Experience performing electrical engineering calculations, technical evaluations, or power system studies relevant to the position.
• Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and technical engineering documentation.
• Understanding of applicable electrical codes, engineering standards, and electrical safety principles.
• Ability to evaluate engineering findings and communicate technical recommendations to project teams and other engineering professionals.
• Demonstrated proficiency in preparing, reviewing, or interpreting technical calculations and engineering reports.
• For protection engineering assignments, experience with electrical protection principles, protective device coordination, or relay protection applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with power systems analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or comparable platforms.
• Specialized experience with short-circuit analysis, arc flash studies, protective device coordination, or load flow analysis.
• Familiarity with protective relays, relay settings, and related configuration or analysis tools.
• Experience with SEL equipment or AcSELerator software.
• Background supporting electrical engineering projects for large commercial, industrial, or mission-critical facilities.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or progress toward licensure, where relevant to the specific position.
