Description
CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION DEPARTMENT
ELECTRICAL WORKER GENERAL
Under the general supervision of an Electrical Worker Sub-Foreman, Electrical Worker Foreman, Plant Maintenance Foreman or designated maintenance supervisor and the general oversight of the Master Electrician of Record, provides journey worker electrical installation, repair and maintenance services and trains and directs the work of registered apprentices.
Examples of Duties
1.Installs, diagnoses and repairs transformers, motors and starters, switchgear, programmable logic controllers, relays and meter equipment.
2.Replaces motor bearings and brushes.
3.Installs, alters or replaces conduit, wiring, switches and outlets for lighting and power supply for interior electrical systems, safety zone lights, floodlights, airport signals, control systems, motors, office and residential needs, and other needs as directed.
4.Isolates equipment; locates and clears grounds, short circuits and electrical or mechanical trouble on primary or secondary electrical circuits and their associated equipment and devices.
5.Maintains and overhauls switchboards and supervisory control equipment.
6.Inspects and maintains primary service installations and power distribution systems in public buildings.
7.Maintains and calibrates electrical meters.
8.Maintains emergency power systems.
9.Ensures allied trades persons on maintenance teams understand electrical safety procedures.
10.Carries tools, parts and supplies to areas of work.
11.Cleans machinery, parts and equipment.
12.Ensures that other employees in proximate work area understand basic electrical safety practices such as lockout/tagout procedure.
13.Completes work orders and paperwork related to job tasks.
14.Directs helpers and trains apprentices.
15.Performs duties in accordance with departmental and regulatory safety procedures and standards, including but not limited to, the utilization of designated personal protective equipment.

Do you possess a State of Michigan License or Local Journeyman Certification in at least one of the major trades: Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or Carpentry?

How many years of experience do you have in building operations, maintenance, and repair, including mechanical and electrical systems?

Have you successfully completed a registered electrical apprenticeship program recognized by the United States - Department of Labor, naming the apprenticeship program, sponsoring organization, and dates of completion.

Candidates considered for placement in this classification at Wastewater Treatment Plant operations (WWTP) and Water Treatment Plants (WTP) are required by MIOSHA standards and Departmental policy to complete a health assessment questionnaire and pass a baseline physical. As a condition of employment at WWTP and WTP, candidates must pass a respiratory fit test and remain ready to wear a respirator during all work hours. Facial hair may interfere with the proper fit of the respirator which may make shaving of facial hair a requirement. Employees are required to pass an annual respiratory fit test. Baseline physicals may be repeated prior to the annual respiratory fit test when deemed appropriate. Are you willing and able to comply with all applicable health and safety requirements for employment at a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) or Water Treatment Plant (WTP), including completing required health assessments, passing a baseline physical examination, successfully completing an annual respiratory fit test, and wearing a respirator when required as a condition of employment?
