Position Description

Position Overview:

Responsible for general electrical work required for installation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical equipment and systems necessary for construction, renovation, or maintenance in designated County buildings.

Job Duties:

  • Performs all duties required to install, estimate time and materials, maintain, or repair electrical equipment and systems in County buildings.
  • Assists and trains less experienced co-workers and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to be on-call after hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency.
  • Current State Journeyman Electricians license is required.

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of hands-on experience in commercial or residential electrical work.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions thoroughly, neatly, and promptly, and be skilled in reading and building from blueprints.
  • Understand and have thorough knowledge of electrical tools and codes, and display mechanical aptitude.
  • Maintain a courteous, helpful behavior at all times.
  • Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player.
  • Ability to receive CJIS clearance, pass a security check, and a drug test, as required. This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record.

Emergency Deployment & Continuity of Operations Requirement:

In accordance with Harris County's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Policy, this position is subject to emergency response and deployment protocols. The employee may be designated as supporting a Mission Essential Function (MEF) and must:

  • Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
  • Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location, role, or telework assignment during emergency events.
  • Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
  • Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support County operations continuity.

This applies to any position with network access to Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), or access to an area where CJIS is received, maintained, or stored, either manually or electronically (e.g., custodian, maintenance).

General Information

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:

Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.

Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.

Salary: Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.

Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:

Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting room, or operations command center environment, but some fieldwork may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event). This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting up to 25 lbs., as well as frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs. The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
