Job Description

Electromechanical Assembly Technician

Location: West Columbia, SC
Hire Type: Contract-to-Hire (significant growth potential)
Shift: 1st Shift | Mon–Thur 7:00a–3:30p | Fri 5:30a–2:00p
Pay: $18/hr

A day in this role

You arrive for first shift, open the day’s work orders, and trace wiring diagrams and blueprints to plan your build. With hand and power tools ready, you position parts in jigs, align subassemblies for fit, and move from fastening and riveting to crimping and soldering. You mount relays, switches, circuit boards, and connectors into panels and racks, route cables cleanly, and complete precise terminations. Throughout the build, you inspect, test, and fine-tune—trimming components to meet electrical and mechanical specifications. If a hiccup appears, you help troubleshoot and perform minor rework, document issues for engineers or leads, and keep the workstation clean and safe. Before the shift ends, you restock tools, perform light preventive maintenance, and prepare documentation for the next job.

What you’ll handle

  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions to plan each build.
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Position, align, and secure parts with fixtures, jigs, and other holding devices.
  • Execute mechanical assembly: fastening, bolting, screwing, riveting, and press-fitting components.
  • Execute electrical assembly: wire routing, crimping, connecting components, and cable management.
  • Install subassemblies, modules, and components into enclosures, racks, and panels.
  • Mount and connect switches, relays, circuit boards, and connectors.
  • Perform soldering, wiring, and cable terminations as needed.
  • Carry out intermediate processes such as cleaning, sealing, bonding, and curing.
  • Conduct quality checks, inspections, and basic tests to verify specifications are met.
  • Set up workstations with the correct tools, materials, and documentation.
  • Adjust or trim components to achieve required electrical and mechanical tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and assist with minor repairs or rework of assemblies.
  • Communicate production or quality concerns to supervisors, engineers, or team leads.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance for tools and production equipment.

About you

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or an associate degree is a plus.
  • 1–3+ years in electrical and/or mechanical assembly within manufacturing preferred.
  • Confident reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Hands-on with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical wiring, soldering, and mechanical assembly practices.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a strong quality mindset.
  • Able to follow instructions and work independently or within a team.
  • Clear communicator with solid problem-solving ability.
  • Dedicated to safety and consistent with established protocols.

Why this opportunity

This contract-to-hire position offers a steady first-shift schedule and excellent growth opportunity as you expand your electromechanical skill set in a supportive production environment.
