    Join Our Team

At Simply Ed, we believe every NYC public school student deserves the attention, support, and encouragement they need to thrive — and so do you. As an Elementary Math & ELA Teacher’s Assistant at P.S. 28 Mount Hope, you’ll play a vital role in helping English as a New Language (ENL) students across Grades K–5 strengthen their academic skills, develop confidence, and engage more fully in classroom learning.

This role focuses on providing push-in Math and ELA support specifically for ENL students, working alongside classroom teachers to help students understand grade-level concepts while navigating the language demands of their coursework. You'll reinforce foundational literacy and mathematical skills, clarify instructions and academic vocabulary, and provide individualized attention to students who may benefit from additional language and academic support.

Because this position supports students across the full K–5 grade range, strong proficiency in both Math and ELA is essential. You should be comfortable adapting your explanations and instructional approaches for students with different levels of English language proficiency, helping them build academic understanding while developing the confidence to participate in classroom activities.

    Why Work With Us?

Our impact in schools begins with how we support our people. At Simply Ed, you’ll find:

    • Mission-driven work – Know your role makes a real difference every single day.
    • Supportive culture – Open communication, respectful work environments, and a leadership team that listens.
    • Career growth – Gain valuable elementary school classroom experience while building instructional, classroom management, and multilingual learner support skills.
    • Training & coaching – From pre-service training with experienced educators to ongoing mentorship, we set you up to succeed from day one.
    • Aligned scheduling – Consistent weekday hours that follow the NYC DOE school calendar.

    What You’ll Do

As a Simply Ed Elementary Math & ELA Teacher’s Assistant, you will:

    • Provide push-in classroom support during Math and ELA instruction for ENL students across Grades K–5.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide targeted academic support that aligns with daily instruction and students' language development needs.
    • Offer one-on-one and small-group support within the classroom to help ENL students understand instructions, engage with lessons, and apply grade-level concepts.
    • Reinforce foundational ELA skills, including phonics, reading fluency, reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking.
    • Reinforce foundational Math skills, including number sense, operations, place value, fractions, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving strategies.
    • Help students understand academic vocabulary and subject-specific terminology, particularly when unfamiliar English language structures make classroom material more challenging.
    • Use clear explanations, visual supports, modeling, and other accessible instructional strategies to reinforce student understanding.
    • Adjust academic support to accommodate different grade levels, English language proficiency levels, and individual learning needs.
    • Encourage students to participate in classroom discussions, ask questions, and communicate their understanding with greater confidence.
    • Help students work through challenging assignments while encouraging independence and continued academic growth.
    • Help manage classroom routines and foster a welcoming, supportive learning environment.
    • Monitor student progress and share observations with teachers and staff.
    • Assist with organizing materials and preparing instructional resources.
    • Attend required training sessions and staff meetings.

    Who We’re Looking For

    We’re seeking individuals who are:

    • Passionate about supporting elementary school students, particularly English as a New Language (ENL) learners, in their academic growth.
    • Proficient in both elementary Math and ELA and comfortable supporting instruction across the full K–5 grade range.
    • Confident explaining mathematical and literacy concepts clearly, accurately, and in developmentally appropriate ways.
    • Able to simplify academic language, clarify instructions, and adapt explanations for students developing their English language skills.
    • Patient and supportive when working with students who may need additional time or guidance to understand and communicate academic concepts.
    • Comfortable providing push-in classroom support and working collaboratively with classroom teachers.
    • Reliable, professional, and committed to showing up every day.
    • Strong communicators and collaborative team players.
    • Experienced working with children (formally or informally). Experience supporting ENL students or multilingual learners is preferred, but training is provided.
    • Currently pursuing or holding a bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, English, TESOL, or a related field.
    • Adaptable and responsive to different learning styles, language proficiency levels, and student needs.
    • Cleared (or eligible for clearance) through NYC DOE PETS background check and fingerprinting.
    • Fluent in English; additional language proficiency is a plus, particularly for supporting multilingual learners.
