The Emergency Services (ES) Transport EMT will operate on the Chippenham Hospital EMS Transport Services’ Team. The primary duty of the Transport EMT will be to assist the Paramedic in rendering safe and effective treatment and transport of Chippenham Hospital patients on the Chippenham Hospital EMS Transport Services’ ambulance. The Transport EMT will respond to EMS Call-Center requests, coordinate with other healthcare providers, and facilitate transport appropriately.
· Ensures the readiness of Chippenham Hospital EMS ambulances for service.
· Performs checks on ambulance mechanical systems and all included medical equipment to verify full and safe working condition.
· Completes daily supply check-offs, checks for dated equipment expiration, and stocks as appropriate. Maintains an aesthetically clean and safe ambulance and associated work area.
· Reports all issues of ambulance readiness to the Chief of EMS Operations immediately.
· Remains available to render BLS mutual aid care to other agencies, mass casualty events, and declared disasters as outlined in Florida Statute Ch. 401.
· Provides care for patients pursuant to the Basic Life Support guidelines outlined in F.S. 401.25. Operates within Medical Protocols established by the Chippenham Hospital EMS Medical Director.
· Operates Chippenham Hospital EMS ambulance in accordance with Emergency Vehicle Operations training. Maintains safety and control of the ambulance at all times, through the use of appropriate speed, braking, and cornering techniques.
· Applies the practice of “due regard” at all times, and follows all State and local regulations on emergency equipment. Meets all current requirements of Chapter 64E-2 of the Florida Administrative Code.
· Documents all patient information and care factually and accurately. Includes all applicable insurance information and signatures as needed. Ensures documentation for every patient transported is completed prior to the end of each shift.
· Ensures readiness of ambulance and all associated equipment for service, and performs stocking as needed
· Maintains cleanliness of interior and exterior of ambulance and EMS equipment
· Responds to Chippenham EMS Transport Services requests for the transport of patients from Chippenham Hospital facilities
· Provides care in the out of hospital setting, serving as the secondary provider and assistant to the Paramedic or other healthcare provider during interfacility transports
· Provides primary patient care activities on transports approved to be at the BLS level by the attending physician or EMS Medical Director
· Maintains competence in thorough patient care documentation and use of both EMS PCR and ED software
· Performs EMS hand off reports at facility destinations and reports appropriately to Paramedics, nursing staff, and ED Physicians
· Demonstrates knowledge and application of intermediate patient care, to include vital signs, venipuncture, urinary catheterization, cardiac monitoring, and 12 lead EKG.
· Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or the services delivered.
· Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
