Job Description

An outstanding opportunity is available for an experienced Emergency Veterinarian in Santa Fe, NM, joining a veterinarian-owned 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital with an expanding inpatient team.

Offering $170,000$220,000 and a schedule of just 10 twelve-hour shifts per month, this position is particularly well suited to a veterinarian who enjoys complex case management, inpatient medicine and ICU care. Rather than moving rapidly between appointments, you'll have the opportunity to follow high-acuity patients throughout their hospitalization and play an important role in their care from admission through discharge.

The Hospital
This established 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital is veterinarian-owned, creating a clinical environment where leadership remains closely involved in day-to-day hospital operations and decision-making.

The hospital brings together emergency clinicians, critical care, specialty services and experienced veterinary technicians, providing a collaborative environment for managing complex and critically ill patients.

The Emergency Hospitalist Veterinarian will primarily focus on:
•Hospitalized and high-acuity patients
•Inpatient medicine
•Intensive care and ongoing patient management
•Complex medical cases
•Evidence-based treatment planning
•Continuous reassessment of hospitalized patients
•Diagnostic interpretation and treatment adjustments
•Coordination of care between ER and specialty teams
•Detailed case handovers
•Patient care from admission through discharge
•Collaboration with emergency clinicians
•Collaboration with critical care
•Collaboration with specialty teams
•Working closely with experienced veterinary technicians
•Client communication and treatment updates
•Mentoring and supporting newer clinicians
•Collaborative case discussion
•Continued professional development
This structure provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced emergency veterinarian who particularly enjoys the medical and inpatient side of emergency practice, with the ability to take greater ownership over complex hospitalized cases.

The Opportunity
You'll work a full-time schedule of approximately 10 twelve-hour shifts per month, with a mixture of shifts across the hospital's 24/7 operation. This creates substantial time away from the hospital while maintaining exposure to challenging emergency and critical-care medicine.
Emergency surgery is not required for this position. Veterinarians who enjoy surgery are welcome to take on appropriate procedures, while those looking to develop their surgical confidence can scrub in and gain additional exposure alongside experienced colleagues.
The position also provides opportunities to:
•Manage challenging emergency and critical-care cases
•Develop advanced inpatient medicine skills
•Work alongside experienced emergency and specialty clinicians
•Participate in collaborative case management
•Follow complex patients throughout hospitalization
•Strengthen ICU and high-acuity case management experience
•Mentor less-experienced clinicians
•Develop emergency surgical skills if desired
•Learn through complex and varied case exposure
•Contribute to an expanding inpatient service

Compensation & Schedule
•Salary of $170,000$220,000
•Full-time position
•Approximately 10 twelve-hour shifts per month
•Mixture of shifts
•Significant time away from the hospital between scheduled shifts
•No requirement to perform emergency surgery
•Opportunity to participate in surgery if desired

•Experienced technical support
•Collaborative veterinarian-led environment
