United States Steel Corporation is actively seeking a Labor Relations Representative. This role is focused on the day-to-day administration of the labor agreement and the practical support of operating departments in a unionized environment. The position serves as a primary resource to management on contract interpretation, grievance handling, discipline, overtime and labor control, and ongoing engagement with local union leadership. The successful candidate will be expected to build productive working relationships with management and union representatives while ensuring consistent application of the Basic Labor Agreement and local practices for the Company.

Core Labor Relations Responsibilities:

• Interpret and administer the USS/USW Basic Labor Agreement, local agreements, and established practices on a daily basis.
• Serve as a day-to-day resource for operating and maintenance managers on labor agreement application, employee issues, and union-related matters.
• Administer the grievance procedure, including investigating issues, preparing responses, meeting with union officials, and maintaining accurate records.
• Research, analyze, and apply arbitration precedent and prior settlements to support consistent labor relations positions.
• Develop and recommend local strategic positions on contract interpretation, grievance resolution, and dispute management.
• Negotiate grievance settlements and other local resolutions as appropriate.
• Counsel management on their rights, obligations, and responsibilities under the labor agreement.
• Ensure proper use of progressive discipline for union-represented employees and support management through the disciplinary process.
• Prepare and present cases for arbitration, including gathering documentation, developing arguments, and coordinating witness preparation.
• Ensure compliance with contracting out provisions and provide guidance on related operational decisions.
• Support labor and overtime control, including review of overtime practices, staffing impacts, and related agreement requirements.
• Administer, maintain, and audit incentive-related matters as applicable.
• Track, report, and analyze headcount, staffing movement, and other labor-related data to support operational decision-making.
• Maintain productive working relationships with local union leadership, management, and employee representatives to support effective issue resolution.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations or a related field.
• Juris Doctorate or at least three (3) years of experience in Labor Relations, including employee-facing responsibilities, preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills necessary to handle sensitive issues tactfully and with absolute confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation, necessary to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work in both individual and team settings.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to utilize applications including, but not limited to, Excel to analyze data, identify trends and draw reasonable conclusions.
• Ability to meet aggressive deadlines
